Is this HT good?

100% stay away from these all-in-one boxed solutions. They are selling people inferior items to cash in on the home theater craze. You might be "wow'd" for a week or so, but will soon discover your money could have been better spent with some minor research.

Grab a DVD (prefer one that is has both a AC3 and DTS soundtrack or one DVD of each) and a quality stereo CD, both of which you are very familiar with their sound and video, or ask the retailer if they have some.

Take these to your A/V reatailer or specialty shop and listen to a few components with each media; testing a few speakers as well. Heck, take some paper and a pen to make notes. You don't want to buy these items without seeing and hearing them.

Doing this research doesn't always mean sticker-shock, but it will assure you will getting far better quality and listening enjoyment for the money you do have to spend and you should find that for a tiny bit more of an investment, you will can find much better gear.

The other thing as always with all-in-ones, if one part goes out, you will also losing the rest of the setup.

I agree with charper1. These HTIB's may be okay in a game room or garage etc.
You can buy a great DVD player (it will play your CD's as well) for around $150. Then check around for a A/V receiver. Where i would suggest spending most of your time though is listening to speakers. Spend some good money if possible. If you can't afford a whole HT set-up, get 2 good speakers & add a sub later & then go from there.
Again, a "wonder in a box" most of the time isn't a "wonder".
