Is there anyway to turn off the new (highly annoying) banner on the VIP612?

New software update on our VIP 612 receivers that adds the Dish Blockbuster Movie Pass Access to the receiver. With the new software comes a new highly annoying banner at the bottom of the screen anytime we are on a movie channel. It reminds us to check out any of the the following (Starz movies through Dish Online, thousands of movies through dishonline.com, etc.) Hate, hate, hate, these banners and have went through every page of the settings trying to turn them off. It they can't be turned off, I will have to consider (along with their failure to release a multi-room receiver after 2 years) moving to the competition. If anyone from Dish is reading this please don't Spam your existing customers like this, if you want to have it in the software that's fine, but give users the option to turn it off. Thank you for help and time.

Yup. Those of us with 722/k's have already been suffering from this obscenity for months. I hate it too, but I'm not leaving Dish over it. Some claim hitting the cancel button dismisses the banner, and we are being babies for worrying about it. Frankly I can't imagine how this form of ad works. Who among us wants to stop watching a movie on our TV and watch it on a PC after fumbling around on DishOnline? Not me!

is this the same banner that only appears once when you first change to the channel, then doesn't appear until you leave it and then come back?

Yes, I quickly ran through the other thread and realized that this is the same complaint other have discussed. My apologies if this is a duplicate I just noticed this after the software update last night. For the record, I actually used Dish Online and the Blockbuster Movie Package and DO NOT need any advertisements spamming me about it. We have four 612 VIP receivers, America's Everything Package and Dish Platinum. While I have been happy the last 6 years (for the most part) with Dish this, along with the multi-room DVR fiasco, is really pushing me out the door. Sorry to be ranting here, but I appreciate the help and comments. Thank you.

I was surprised to find this annoying banner on the 922 as well.

These need to be an option to turn off ASAP. A stretched out channel logo on the bottom of what otherwise is a beautiful interface? No thanks.

I sit down in front of my TV to watch TV. I don't need a constant reminder that content is available online, I already know!

I'm not fond of the banners either. And yes, hitting the cancel button takes it off immediately. Would I like to see it changed? Yes!

But let's be honest here, if this is all we have to complain about aren't we being a wee bit silly? Life must be really good when a banner on a screen for a few seconds causes us to get our panties in a wad. :p

Doesn't this banner appear for only about 5 seconds before disappearing on its own? On my 722K, it goes away as soon as the top banner goes away (the one that shows which channel you are tuned to). If so, you want to leave Dish because you see a banner at the bottom of the screen for 5 seconds when you tune to a channel when there is ANOTHER banner you've been seeing for years at the top of the screen?

I don't think it's silly at all.We pay a good amount of money to watch the shows we want and, premium channels imho should be ad/banner free.

what about the dang channel crap and the "coming attractions" that the networks put on? Those things are annoying and actually block a good portion of the picture. now that's something to complain about.

I don't disagree with your logic at all. I agree that it is annoying and I don't like it. Plus I can't imagine that kind of advertising works at all and whoever came up with it should be taken out back and have some sense beaten into them. :p

HOWEVER...when you consider all that we could be complaining about that are affecting millions of people at this very moment, such as (for example) we could be unemployed, facing imminent foreclosure, we could be hungry or homeless, living in a country with no freedoms, facing a terminal illness, etc...I will stick by my comment that complaining about a 5 second banner on our premium channels (that we are so fortunate to be able to afford, mind you) is quite SILLY. ;)

Ah, the luxuries we have and how spoiled we have become.

They are obtrusive and require extra effort to make them go away. I hate them.

I am personally on a boycott of both the linear channels with this banner AND the loathsome DO. Unfortunately my wife still wants to watch some of these channels, but mostly via recording. I have not seen the banner when watching the replay.

Extra effort?
OMG
Click a button.

It doesn't bother you and thats great glad it doesn't.But one of these days it will be more than one click of a button. This is a trend that won't get better it will only get worse and unless we voice our opinions Dish nor any other company/entity will care and shove more and more crap our way.In this day and age the customer is always right doesn't apply.

Yes, then they will make another appear when I click on cancel asking "Are you sure?"
And now I will have to press the button twice and get tired and could die!!! because of that lot of exercise.

I know...RIGHT!?!

Although in all fairness you may have to actually flex your thumb slightly and [gasp] press ever so gently on a button. I conservatively calculate that the effort required to do that would equal approximately 1-2% of the total effort to lift one kernel of popcorn to your mouth one time while watching said program. If you are a frequent channel changer you may expend enough energy over your lifetime to equal eating a whole bowl.:p

And yes, this thread is headed south quickly...but it's good for a Thursday night chuckle while killing some time.

I still don't see how the bottom banner is any more obtrusive than the channel banner that has been there forever.

I absolutely disagree. Anything that doesn't deeply affect our lives we should just accept? This has nothing to do with those issues.

We are discussing an issue affecting a service that we pay a good deal of money to have access to. I do not want that service to remind me, in an unattractive and intrusive manner, of something that I already know.

My alternative is to either live with it, switch to a provider that doesn't do this, or to cancel the channels that do. I, for one, will be cancelling my HBO and sticking with Showtime, since it currently does not have the bottom banner.

Yes, it is that annoying to me. The top banner provides useful information. The bottom banner might as well be flipping me off, it offends me that much to have useless information repetitively forced onto the screen of my receiver that I both paid a significant amount of money for, and that I continue to have to pay for on a monthly basis.

Would you stick with your argument if they added a third banner in the middle?

No you should not just accept it. You do what you are doing right now. You determine how important it is to you and you vote with your wallet.

But whether you want to acknowledge it or not, the fact we are even able to sit in the comfort of our own homes and type on our own PC's these messages to each other while complaining about such trivial matters (remember, I don't like the banner either) means we have pretty good lives. That was my point to begin with. If this is all we have to complain about...then we really have nothing to complain about. :)

I could make pages of lists that would blow up this forum about things I don't like or that annoy me. I choose to focus on all that is good instead. And when something really annoys me until I can't take it, I vote with my wallet, also...just like you. Personally, I don't see the big deal. Others do, that is fine. They speak their opinion, I speak mine...that's what forums are for. At the end of the day we are discussing a matter so trivial 99.9% of the world's population would think we are completely insane.

And to answer your question, which I missed at first, yes I'd stick to the argument if the screen was blank and had dancing pigs on it for 5 seconds if I can remove it with a quick button press. LOL 3 banners or a hundred...we're talking about banners here that can be dismissed by touching a button...(sort of reminds me of the Allen Iverson "Practice...we're talkin' about practice?"). I guess some people are wound more tightly than others.
