hello
i'm trying to get a strong signal but it's too wet and cold to drag a receiver and tv out to the antenna. is there a hand held rf meter or something i could use??
i know i know get a freind with walkie talkies, but no walkie talkies and finding a friend with a schedule is hard. was looking for a one man job thing.

tyhanks for the help
oh yeah it's a super dish on a pole in the ground
i'm also thinking about putting in a 4x4 instead of the pole

A compass and that finder worked great to be honest! It took about 10 minutes to find the 4 satellites I was looking for, but it may not work for you.

Good Luck

If you have a little patience, it should be fairly easy to figure out which satellites are which, of course if you ever wish.. a receiver plugged into the dish (inside where you're setting up), one of those portable TVs, a good antenna, and a small amp would do wonders :D Admittedly, not a wise idea if you have FCC people stalking you with antennas to see what you're doing, but what's the likelyhood of that? o_O

I ductaped a 7" tv to an old 7200 I have. Its the perfect small package to use as a satellite finder :). The 7200s have a VERY sensitive signal meter. It is very fast to blip up when you get close. I hate the signal meters on the other legacy recievers, it takes a second before it registers.

Another way I've done it is crank up the volume on the point dish screen so I can hear it outside. Dont use this method after 9pm if you have neighbors (that you like) :)

i had a meter die on a job i was on at a two story house, with the dish on the roof. I got desperate, diplexed the satellite line and backfed the video from an 311, and used a little 3"lcd tv i carry with me up on the roof to line the dish up.
kind of a pain in the ass, but it worked
