Update and confession: successfully self-installed, and paid to have it moved to roof
Trying to get the guilt out with a good excuse.
As explained above, I got the motorized 90cm dish installed and working nicely a few weeks ago. I was not getting some satellites like AMC3 that has good PBS progs I like because of a tree across the street that was blocking my dish installed at the side of the house. I had low quality in the extreme west because there is a distant forest and a house that was blocking part of my signal.
I talked to one brave direct TV installer (A. Baez - 7749223559 if anyone in New England needs a good installer) who admitted that he had never installed a motorised FTA system, but was willing to clink my 30+ foot roof to nicely position my FTA on the roof since I can't breath out of fear when I am off the ground. He came in an on the first day he was trying to use fixed-dish tactics to aim the dish, and ofcourse I became the teacher and after 4 hours in the dark, he gave up, and me without even a single channel. I gave him the manuals and some links to resources for understanding how to point to the clarke belt. Since I am too afraid of heights, and could only tell him what to do, he had to figure it out.
The next day, he came in and he had done his homework. He followed the instructions and used the values that had so far worked for me and in an hour he had the system pointed correctly again. I was not only able to get all the satellites I had before, but the obstructions were no-longer an issue and I had good quality, AMC3 and I could even point the dish all the way west to G10R which was previously pointing into the neighbours livingroom.
I am glad that I spent the 2 weeks before to learn how to setup a motirised dish, and get it working. I am also happy to have paid this guy to climb the roof for the wimp that I am; especially cause I have a buddy whose fixed dish I have to install near the ground this weekend and later we can have the fearless guy climb the 3 storey roof
