Is Dish selling external hard drives now?

$64 is about how much it would cost for a 500GB plus an external enclosure, so it's not a ripoff by any means. Still, buying larger drives will give you more value though.

Not sure that's such a good deal. I get my 1T drives from Newegg. I've been getting this one: Western Digital Elements 1TB Desktop External Hard Drive WDBAAU0010HBK-NESN It goes for $69.99 and has free shipping.

I've been shopping for an EHD and I've seen some that go into sleep mode. Would this be a problem?

Yes. Seagate drives are known for this issue. You have to disable sleep mode with the drive attached to a PC first.

Look at WD drives, seem to have a better satisfaction record, which I agree with.

It might not be a good deal but it's still not a ripoff. I also shop at Newegg/Amazon. I actually have two of those you linked to.

My WD Elements EHDs (links above) have sleep mode built-in. Doesn't seem to bother the receivers. I still wish I could turn off sleep mode, though. Supposedly WD is working on a tool to do that.
