Is DISH EVER going to get Root Sports???

Astros are on MLB Network tonight..........blacked out in Houston. We can't even watch them when they're on national TV.

correct
If the game is on a RSN the MLB feed is blacked out forcing you to watch it on the RSN (whether or not it is carried is irrelevant)
Now Thursday I know the Twins/White Sox game is on MLB and in Minnesota we CAN see it on MLB (RSN is not showing it)

I bet it's simulcast on Root sports Network.
You would be able to watch it there if you had it.

That's the biggest issue with me trying to watch the Mets or Yankees, I can't!!
The only way if they are on locally.
On My 9 or WPIX 11, Which I'm not even Sure when those are on.

So I've been watching the Pirates.
For now.
I wonder if I "move" to Philadelphia dma, if that would qualify me to get Mets or Yankees ?
Does anyone know?

on MLB EI? You should

The below map shows Philly area is only claimed by Philly

Nope. I live north of Phila and if you drew a circle for the Yankees, Mets, and Phillies DMA's you'd see they all overlap. Since Comcast controls all Phillies telecasts I haven't seen a game since channel 17 was pushed out a couple of years ago. If the Yankees or Mets are on ESPN, for instance, it's always blacked out on Dish for me. What it amounts to is I've been frozen out of enjoying MLB on TV. The blackout rule was designed to protect home field attendance, It was never intended to protect cable telecasts. One more example of how the industry twists the rules and the FCC turns it's back.

I don't think you really want to go there.
I can think of 4 right off the bat, that dish doesn't carry in Pro sports..

Let's not turn this thread into a battle about RSNs per provider.

The point wasn't there to cause a pissing match. It was there to show that all providers have some desired channels that others do not. It is not specific to Dish, DTV, ATT, Comcast or any other single provider.

But, Philadelphia DMA, has no RSN from NY on Directv either.
So that tells me that an out of market sports package would work.
MLB TV has a zip code input for blackouts.
That should tell all.

According to this, My "Moved" adress should only be the Phillies.
MLB EI I'm sure has the same rules no?

correct. Thats what the Directv RSN lookup said too when I looked up a Philly zip. It said "no local sports" which meant CSN Philly.

I guess to watch any Astros again this year, I will have to go to my local watering hole. Not always a bad thing ;)

Excuse to wife, I cannot get it with Dish Network at home so need to go where I can see it and still cheaper than going to the game and paying $20 to park, cheap seats (if available) are $20+, and $20+ for beer and a hotdog. Plus dealing with all the traffic!

Astros claim Texas Oklahoma Arkansas and Louisiana. We already have FSN OK SW and MW. Don't need another. Before long Dish will follow Directv and start charging RSN fees for all these areas with multiple RSN's.

Funny thing about that is even though we get 4 teams in the OK(Houston Astros not on Dish or COX or Suddenlink) market the RSN fee on DirecTv is still $0 even after the recent increases....Now if DTV can offer 4 different teams to 1 market and not have to charge a RSN fee im interested to see how much these LA NY teams are charging just for their teams....Greed is winning clearly.

It illustrates the idiocy of relying on zip codes. The assumption is made that hey, it's Carbon County so it's the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre market, except it isn't. I live at the Lehigh/Carbon county line. Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody around here has anything to do with SWB. This area is considered part of the Lehigh Valley which market wise is considered part of the Philadelphia market. All of the Carbon County statistics (economics, population, employment, etc) are included in the ABE (Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton) area statistics, not SWB. Now, putting all of that aside the real true indicator of the absurdity of it all is the fact that Pittsburgh is included. From where I live to Pittsburgh is 286 miles, it's an almost 5 hour drive. No one is ever going to convince me that me being blacked out for Pirates games makes any sense what-so-ever.

One more thing, unless you live where I live you have no basis for determining what market I'm in. I would not presume to tell you what actual market you are in and you haven't the local knowledge to tell me.

Um , that's the DMA market map.
That is etched in stone.
Now if you live on the boarder that's a different story.
If you get Philadelphia locals, then tell me ,what County did you claim you live?

Keep in mind I can easily look it up on dish.

Also RSN territory is based solely on zip codes, because a single DMA can have a different sports Territory
Not all of Scranton Wilkes Barre is NY City sports, only Carbon, Monroe Pike and Wayne.
Northampton isn't NY sports at all.
So that's considered out of market.

Look what I found Jeep Guy.
Slatington Pa, is Philadelphia market.
Not Lehighton.

I don't know how it works in other states, but PA has a lot of disjointed markets.

I live in Lancaster County and based on my zip code, Dish says I belong to the Harrisburg/Lancaster market. Those are my locals.
However, if I subscribe to cable, Comcast also offers the Philly stations AND Baltimore stations. So, in reality, I'm kind of part of 3 different DMA's.
I know several people that consider themselves part of the Philly DMA simply because they receive the Philly channels, though we're clearly part of the Harrisburg DMA.

Where JeepGuy is at, Dish says he's part of the Wilkes Barre/Scranton DMA.
But Blue Ridge Cable also supplies him with the Lehigh Valley channels Philly locals.
It's entirely possible (and likely) that his area identifies with the Lehigh Valley and Philly because those are available to cable subscribers (similarly to people in parts of Lancaster County identifying with Philly).

But back on topic - I'm also in the same boat at Jeep Guy when it comes to blackout rules.
4 teams lay claim to us (Pirates, Phillies, Orioles, Nationals). It'd be a nightmare to figure out the blackout schedule, except that I'm a Boston fan, so MLB.tv is my elixer :)

Cable rules and Satellite rules are entirely different. Satellite can only cover stations according to the DMA that the sub resides in. Cable is free to add adjoining stations.

It's not just homeowners that Dish is loosing. I used to see hundreds of retail places (bars, restaurants, etc.) in the Houston area that used Dish. Because they don't carry Root Sports I see none any more. No wonder Dish is loosing money.
