Hi, y'all.

Trying to figure out how to get my brother's 2 DirecTV boxes connects to the Internet. They are SWM. He would like to hardwired the Ethernet connection to the router rather than use wireless.

He has an HR21-700 in his family room and an HR24-500 in his bedroom. His router is located in the AV stand in the family room. From what I can tell, I would need to put a DCCK on the HR21, as well as a DECA. Then once this is accomplished, the HR24 would receive network from its internal DECA.

So, if I'm following the info I found online properly then the connection would go like this:

1. Remove incoming sat line from HR21 and connect to 2-way SWM splitter.
2. Connect split lines, 1 to DECA , 1 to DCCK.
3. Connect DECA to HR21 with coax to Sat In and Cat5 to Ethernet port.
4. Establish networking settings on both receivers

Does this seem right? Some info I found also mentions a "DECA Power Inserter", but I can't figure out how that would connect.

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Solid Signal has White Papers on doing this. Get the one for CCK II. H's 24's, 34', 44's have DECA/CCK built in. I am planning on doing my Internet in my new house next week using an HR34 at the router connected to my cable modem. That will provide Ethernet over DirecTV coax. At remote stations you need a 2-port green splitter, CCK II and PS. The powered port connects to any DTV receivers at the location and the other port to the CCK. An Ethernet cable is connected from the CCK to an Ethernet Switch and then your devices into the Switch. Only downside I've read is that throughput will be around 100mbs. No gigabit. I do hope to eventually go with Cat6 but Ethernet over coax using DTV's version of MOCA is a quick, dirty, cheap, acceptable alternative. Supposedly slick as snot.

Get the White Paper http://forums.solidsignal.com/showthread.php/2083-WHITE-PAPER-Advanced-Coax-Networking-for-DIRECTV

The post below has a good Link to the remote location installation.

Well Idid it and it works and works well. Plugged HR34 into Router. DECA and Power are built in. T feed Ethernet device there I used a Switch plugged into the router. Feeds TV, BD, Roku. In my den, connected 2-port Green Label splitter to incoming coax. Connected DECA to red terminal of splitter and an Ethernet switch to its Ethernet port. Ethernet devices connect to Switch. Port 2 of splitter connects to an H24. Master bedroom repeats the same DECA/Ethernet switch scheme. HR24 there.

I think you can add as many Ethernet/DECA's as long as they are on MRV connected coax. I think it doesn't matter if you are out of SWM Channels. Ethernet and SWM/MRV coexist with each other. With one device and no tuner you can get away with just using the DECA Ethernet port. More devices you need a Switch. Add a Receiver you need the 2 port approved splitter.

DECA II's are 8 bucks on Amazon. A great solution if pulling Ethernet is too hard are you too lazy like me. Remember NO gigabit Ethernet support.

I'm monkey see, monkey do. Use the Solid Signal White Paper it case I told it wrong. Whatever i did, it works.
