Personally I am not sure what you are asking.

Toss dial-up out 1000%, and if you have access to 756kbps (or better) downstream DSL or cable, throw out the satellite solution as well.

Leaving DSL or cable as your best remaining options, but this is still a VERY GENERALIZED reply because all of those factors in your list can vary based on the ISP, your area, and the service level you are wiling to pay for.

BUT, if you can get the same exact downstream speeds, at the same cost per month, I would go with DSL or any one of its numerous formats (ADSL, VDSL, SDSL, RADSL, HDSL) VDSL being the best choice if its available to you.

If you can save $12-$15 or more per month (for the exact same speed) going one way or the other WITHOUT having to BUNDLE services, then go the way that suits your wallet.

This is a VERY SIMPLISTIC and general answer to your vague question, but it should give you a direction to ask more detailed ones depending on your needs and availability.

I think charper1 nailed the answer.

I have DSL at 1.4mb down/384k up. I pay $49.00. My local phone co is running a special @ 29.95/mo for the first year now. *sigh*

Cable seems to slow down in neighborhoods where there are more internet subscribers. (Dunno why - maybe same pipe divides bandwidth?)

Now my phone co is offering UltraDSL @ 3mb/s down. I haven't checked the price yet.
