I came across this by accident, Its a detail of the DBS Satellites, where they are, who owns them, and prior satellite histories.

http://www.dbsforums.com/compare/chart.html

I also came across this information about the Boeing Model 601 Ku-band Satellite , which most of the DBS birds are.

http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/space/bss/factsheets/601/601fleet.html

And a big cut-away image: http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/space/bss/images/cutaways/601_cutaway.jpeg

And then info on the 702, the 601's replacement: It even shows images of them building XM Roll (Which is a 702) http://www.space-technology.com/projects/boeing702/

And finally, a list of all Boeing made birds, what kinds, what names, and details for them http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/space/bss/programs.html#top

Whoa, them're some excellent links there. :) I like the cut-away image and the list of all Boeing models.

I started off with the first, and it snowballed into the rest there...

What I am not sure about is Sirius Radio... They supposively do not use Geostationary birds like XM does (XM Rock and Roll at 115 and 85 respectively)

But I cannot find any information at all about their birds.. I guess its time to keep looking.. Does not help that there are satellites called "Sirius" in europe

I remember back in the mid 90s when a co-worker bought DTV for $700. Now they all over E-bay.

I did that too.. it was 1997, Fresh out of high-school, had my first job. I saved up some $400-something one week, and I went out and blew it on a single DirecTV reciever and single dish w/ free Self-install kit. My first Satellite dish install, and the dish is still there, and still has 95+ signal strength..

The funny part is, I bought it for my family, but everyone then wanted it in their own rooms, so my mother bought 3 more recievers (at $350 each), a dual LNB (for another $90), and a 2x4 multiswitch (for $150) Grand total.. about $1700

My mother has been a DTV subscriber ever since.. (talk about customer loyalty)

So has my former co-worker. He just got into locals and PVR. Funny I can remember him telling me how he was grandfather for awhile into the lower costing basic pac and how he missing the free one per month PPV.
