Installers were going to take my PVR721

There is an RA built right into the order. If the RA is not removed the installer is charged for the receiver. Really sucks when they want $149.99 for an old 2800 too.
Thank you, That's what I have been trying to say. when the CSR (Customer Service Rep) sets up the work order for the upgrade, It automatically gets on the work order "Customer is swapping receiver, Technition must return swapped receiver and follow proper RA/RAM procedures". They want it back, and they will credit the customer $10.00. If the installer does not return it, The installer is charged the new price for the receiver. And they did that to me before!!... I was back charged $179.99 on my paycheck for not returning a 625 on a 622 swap out. The work order said nothing about returning it, That was back when dish sent a box for the customer to return it. I'm still fighting that but you know how that go's.

What Dish Network is doing is just not right, I feel sorry for you guys.

Same here. They'll give you $10 or $20 credit for your receiver while I can sell it on eBay, Satguys or even Craigslist for a lot more. Not happening.
I agree 100%. But I see it all of the time, I pick up receivers all of the time when I do receiver upgrades. Suck for the customer. Wish I could keep them but I get charged for the receiver (the new price) if I don't return it. Everyone has there hand out.

Whoa there folks. I never called anyone a thief. I said they were determined to take it because they had a RA for it. I also said if I hadn't been watching it would have been gone. These are both true statements. My ire was not directed at them but at DishNetwork. They were actually very nice and competent installers. "John"

I stood up for you a few post back.

They are supposed to take the RCVR, even owned ones now.

That is per Dish Network.

That is a BIG negative! A recent DNS memo passed out to all DNS and RSPs updates that (dated for today actually)

And I quote:

"Question: Do I have to pick up all of the owned receivers?

Answer: If the customer owns the receiver they have the option to
return the receiver for a credit. However, if the customer chooses to keep
the unit it is acceptable to leave the unit at site. The only requirement
is that ALL leased receivers must be returned."

Apparently there was some major confusion from all ends when it came to owned receivers. Fortunately things have gotten cleared up.

Thanks for clearing that up here webby.

The customer can sign up for a program where they get credit for turning in an old owned receiver for a minor credit. Or decide not to.

Why would Dish want the old ones back? Sooner or later, they've got to remove from service all those old MPEG-2 only receivers. The future belongs solely to MPEG-4 8PSK capable receivers.

And I guess the plans to move all HD to MPEG-4 anytime soon are on hold.

Correct, but I decide what to do with the receiver I bought. If I want to drop it from the bedroom window, that's my choice. I'm not giving it up for $10, that's for sure.

There was a lot of confusion among installers and I think webby cleared that up.

Refurbish them for use on warranty calls. As I understand it, Dish can replace some of their oldest receivers with the same models still today. They sure aren't manufacturing them anymore !! They get units in on "upgrades", refurb them, and keep them for warranty replacements. They won't replace them with MPEG4 units. When that switchover happens, Dish will take that enormous cost and spread it out over a few years or so on their books. That's to their advantage. Upgrading a receiver for "free" today is NOT smart.

Why do people make such assumptions ? People may not agree with Dish's decisions or policies, but they make money, hand over fist, year after year. Something tells me they're doing something right.

Atleast you where smart enough to say something, but alot of customers don't know any better and will give up their old equipment without thinking twice about it!

If its a leased receiver then the customer should give it to the installer, but owned receivers should always stay with the customer.

But even my installers sometimes will take the old owned equipment while doing upgrades. Most customers don't mind and are glad to get rid of it.

I did get pist off at my installers over this, and I told them to quit bringing everyones crap back to the office since all I was getting was 3000's and old 2800's. Literally I would pull the smart card and throw away the receiver and remote!

Even when a customer wants to send back owned ones with me I talk them into keeping it for a spare.Less crap I have to do.

Huh guess Charlie is sending that one around again, when I first saw/heard it was in 05 prior to the new models that came out. Some work orders would state that the receiver(s) were to be taken while others didnt but I always made sure to ask if they were getting any credits wich led into bringing up the receiver(s) and then if they said no on taking the receiver I explained how the credit worked and let them decide from there.

On a related note I ran into my fair share of customers where sub contractor took the comcast box and where comcast took the dish box.

I upgraded my PVR721 to a VIP722 yesterday. One of the installers said to the other "Is this the receiver we are supposed to take?" I happened to be listening and I said "No WAY! I own that receiver". They were determined that since they had an RA for that receiver they were going to take it. After a much heated discussion and a call to DishNetwork they decided I could keep it. If I hadn't been watching them they would have walked off with my receiver. If you are having any work done keep a close eye on them at all times. "John"
yes sir!! keep an eye on your installers, while your not cleaning your house!!! And for christ sake, open a window, the smell of curry and fish would gag a maggot!:D:mad::D

has this thought ever occured to anyone who has "moved"
