I just had Dish installed. 1000+
110,118,119,129. DP44 in attic
2 cables to basement (existing RG6)
power inserter to switch 1 and then direct feed to Vip211
2nd feed goes through diplexer and OTA signal to Vip722
722 works great OTA channels work no problem.
But when I add diplexers to 211 TV for OTA I get no sats. I have power inserter wired to input 1 and then connected to the "to Receiver" I cable to "sat in" diplexer and OTA input and then to TV whereby I do it again at the receiver. but I, nor the tech can't get check switch to work. Sometimes 110 checks.
Also when I move the power inserter to the unfinished basement then feed (without diplexers) to 211 it does'nt work.
The only time I can get all 4 sats with 211 is without diplexers and installing the power inserter directly behind TV/receiver. ODD?

anything I can do?

bad DP44?

thanks for help

I doubt there's anything wrong with the sat. equipment since everything seems to work for you with the diplexers out of the circuit.

Are you sure your diplexers on the 211 circuit pass DC? I'm guessing that they don't, at least the one right at the switch since that's where the power inserter (PI) is located. That wouldn't be an issue with the 722 in your system since the power for the switch needs to enter output port 1.

Check this link through DishStore:

I can't really explain why the PI works only when right at the switch vs. at the 211 except that perhaps one of the connectors is not making good connection in the latter case. I'd suspect the "stinger" on the cable from the 211 into the switch is not long enough to reach into the switch, but long enough to reach into the connector on the PI. Check the length of the inner conductors at all locations. IIRC, there is an issue with short conductors at switches.

Good luck with it, and Welcome, BTW...!

I switched diplexers to the 722 and all works fine. I like the stinger length idea not reaching, I'll check tonight. If no go then I was going to add an 120v circuit in the attic by the DP44 and install power inserter right at the switch then switch 211 feed to port 3 or 4 and leave port 1 empty except for PI.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome! I love forums.

I'll advise on findings

You can only use diplexers rated to 2 Amps on port 1 where the power inserter is. These are the blue Holland diplexers. The other 3 ports are OK with regular diplexers but port 1 has the power inserter and requires the blue Holland diplexers.

Run a cable for the power inserter only to port 1 in the switch and then move the 211 to a different port and you'll be fine.

I like the idea of running a 120v circuit down to the switch. Cleans up clutter behind the TV and also helps towards future-proofing the installation. It also reduces the possibility of a failure of the cabling from a remotely-located power inserter taking down your whole setup.

Think of it this way: If you chopped your sat cable between the PI and switch, both receivers should lose signal. If the PI was by the switch and you chopped the wire in the same place, only one receiver would be down until it was fixed. Besides, us techs can tell you that we often see service calls where the PI got unplugged or something while someone added a DVD or was vacuuming, etc.

Well, here's what I did. I added a 120v circuit to the attic and installed the PI directly to port 1. I then switched Vip211 to port 4 and both receivers work great with OTA and diplexers.
By the way the tech installed red diplexers. thanks for all the help
