My story is a sad one..............I have to have my Direct TV. I have been customer for over 12 years. At my present location I can get the regular (non HD) channels from my side house sat install. But what fun is that. I decided to take the HDTV plunge and low and behold could not get Direct TV to install a slimline on my roof. The side house install could not get all the mpeg2 sats. (Steep pitch and 40 feet high) Installer said the slimline must hit all 5 sats.

I am just about to rent a bucket lift. I found a custom installer locally and he had an idea. He let me know that DTV has moved all HD channels the the new HD sats which I can receive from the existing location (just need new dish).

Without the other old HD sats what am I missing? Will I be sorry in the future or are these old sats not going to be used in the future.

Thanks

Depending on where your local channels come from, you may not miss anything. SD locals come from either 101 or 119. The hd locals come from either 99 or 103, as well as all of the hd channels. Since you can get 101, it is very likely you can get 99 and 103. As long as you don't care about the sd locals, you should be okay, as long as the installer doesn't care about getting 119. That could be a problem, since getting it is part of a Slimline install. Another possibility is the new Slimline3, which only gets 99, 101, and 103. It is being used in some parts of the country, maybe in yours.
