I am trying to setup my new equipment for FTA. I am confused though about the fact that I have a signal strength of about 70% and a fluctuating quality between 30-90%. But there is only one things named BER have no signal and when I scan for channels I do not get anyhting. By the way, I still get the same strength and quality when I have the LNB inside the house not pointing to anything!!!

So, is this normal? How do I know when the strength and quality are really from a satellite and that I am going get programs.

Here is a list of the equipment I have: Dream-box dm500 s

Antenna i have no idea i just use the Direct TV one its small with two head,

can you help with any idea also i live in Sacramento ZIP 95827

A DirecTV LNBF will not receive any FTA. You need a 30" or larger dish with a linear Ku-Band LNBF for these satellites.

BER means Bit Error Rate. High BER is bad, high Quality is good.

Direct TV and Dish Network use a circular LNBF. Whereas, most of the dishes for FTA reception in America use a linear LNBF. You could use a circular LNBF for sat reception for the Atlantic region of the sky but you would need a larger dish and since you're on the west coast, the Atlantic satellites may be below your horizon in order to receive them. Good luck
