The Erie Explosion scored on their first three offensive plays, returned two early interceptions for touchdowns and went on to set a franchise record for points in an unreal 138-0 smashing of the Fayetteville Force. "Honestly, we could have scored more," Explosion cornerback Lenny Wicks said with a laugh. Wicks had four interception returns for touchdowns and Kevin Concepcion caught four of Adam DiMichele's six touchdown passes as Erie (8-2) earned an SIFL playoff berth with its drubbing of the Force (3-6). "I'm kind of speechless," DiMichele said. The Explosion led 42-0 at the end of the first quarter. "We always want to start fast, regardless of who we're playing," Explosion defensive end Troy Blackwell said. "We just started extremely fast." Up 56-0 with 11 minutes, 41 seconds left in the first half, Erie made an announcement that if it scored 100 points, there will be free admission for the June 4 regular-season home finale against Harrisburg for those with ticket stubs from Saturday's game. The Explosion reached the century mark with 5:21 left in the third quarter. The 138 points Erie scored in the game was announced as an unofficial indoor football record. "I never imagined anything like that was possible," Erie receiver Kevin Concepcion said. "Once we found out the record was like 133, it was like, 'Let's go for the record.' " On Erie's first offensive play, DiMichele connected with receiver Ernest Jackson on a 21-yard touchdown pass. DiMichele has thrown 76 touchdowns this season. Then the Explosion defense started scoring. On back-to-back possessions, Erie returned two Fayetteville quarterback Bobby Murphy interceptions for touchdowns. Eric Wicks was the first to intercept Murphy. While being tackled, Wicks pitched the ball back to his brother, cornerback Lenny Wicks, who took it back 37 yards for the score. On the next possession, Explosion linebacker and Erie native Roosevelt Benjamin picked off Murphy and ran it back 12 yards untouched for a touchdown. For the game, Erie had nine defensive touchdowns. "Did anybody not score?" Erie coach Shawn Liotta said. So Erie had a 21-0 lead with its offense only running one play. On their next offensive series, the Explosion used only one play to score again. This time, DiMichele found his top target, Concepcion, for a 21-yard score. On Erie's third offensive play, the two hooked up on a 5-yard pass play after a Force turnover. Concepcion now has 40 touchdown catches. In between Concepcion's two first-quarter touchdown catches, Lenny Wicks found the end zone again and this time didn't need a lateral from his brother to get there. Wicks snared a Murphy pass and scored from 30 yards out. Yep, it got ugly early.
