Hey guys,

Wondering if you can help me track down a good indoor HD antenna to hook up to my Dish ViP722k.

I am in Bowling Green, about 20-25 miles south-southwest of Toledo. Antenna-wise, I'm limited to something I can mount inside next to the TV on the ground floor.

Here are my antennaweb stats

And here are three of the antennas I'm looking at.

Any experience with these or an even better one?

Your ch 40.1 is being broadcast on ch5 so it is below the frequencies many of todays antennas are designed for Ch 7-52. Of the 3 you are interested in I would choose the TERK, even though I don't like TERK products.

I used to use a Zenith Silver Sensor at 20 to 25 miles with good results as long as you have line of sight to the transmitters...... I believe it's called the Zenith ZHDTV1 HDTV-UHF Digital Indoor Antenna now. Also the DB2 antenna works well but is larger and uglier than the Zenith.

The Terk antenna is a clone of the Zenith but has VHF capabilities added. If you check his antenna web he has CN5/11 & 13 as VHF broadcasters. As far as I'm concerned there is no good indoor antenna but his Terk is still my selection of his 3 suggestions.

You can get that model for $19.95 here http://www.nextag.com/amplified-antenna-rca/stores-html

I have an RCA amplified rabbit ear antenna and it works great for me. It's a different model than yours. http://www.nextag.com/RCA-ANT585-Indoor-Amplified-504251946/prices-html I get everything listed on antennaweb, even the purple levels. The green is I get solid reception. The blue is spotty but usable reception. The orange is spotty and mostly unusable reception. The red is no reception.

The antenna aerials are all the way down. If I put them up reception goes to hell. I also had to mess with placement of the antenna for a week to get the best compromise. I can get all the channels great individually if I screw with placement every time. The compromise is to have spotty reception of some dayton channels.

I've tested a lot of indoor antennas and I have to say that the Clearview models are outstanding. Their smallest indoor model pulls in as many or more than the ones you plug in or are larger. It advertises 25 miles but some of the channels are definitely further...

Check it out here...

Antennas Direct | C1 ClearStream HDTV Antenna for the DTV Transition

I just installed this in my summer place in Union Pier, MI and it pulls in both South Bend channels and most of the Chicago ones. (the lower frequency channel 2 is an exception).

Do yourself a favor and try this:

It really does work exceptionally well.

That's a UHF only design. It's not a good antenna for Toledo.

Same with the coat hanger antenna.
I have the coat hanger antenna in the attic with an AntennaCraft pre-amp, and it brings in channel 7,(real, not virtual), which is about 45 miles away at 209° and the antenna is pointed to 340° for the Canadian stations. I also get real channels 11 and 13 good with it and they are farther away. It doesn't do well though with VHF low (2-6). YMMV.

I had no problem with the coat hanger antenna either other than I needed it tb mounted outside and it isn't exactly designed for outdoor use...At least not for long...But indoor it should last indefinately...

what did the thunderstorm do?
