I have found this website through Google, by inputting,"How to start a channel"? I was wondering if that particular person, ever got their idea up & running? The post was rather old, & it seemed like the person had a Great Idea.
Well, I would like to stick with that Topic. I also have a Great Idea, & would LOVE to get it started already. I am surprised that no one has already began a similar idea for a channel. I am definitely POSITIVE, that my specific idea would catch on like wildfire because I'll be embarking on a Multi-Billion Dollar Business. I want to, not only promote the idea, but, to also answer many questions, that normal civilians would have on the subject. Not only a talk show, persay, but, many different talk shows, sticking with the same principle.
As far as I know, it has NEVER been done! I am surprised it never has because it has existed, been around, since I was a child. Even then, it was a BIG International interest.
Already being aware that there's a HUGE Fanbase of enthusiasts, I am anxious to exploit this idea for the better of its world. Online business is already endangering the loss of, many peoples ideal hotspots to get information on this subject.
I would like to help these business', stay in BUSINESS! It is definitely one of America's Favorite Past-Times & I know for a FACT, I'll succeed. Even if it requires, my hard work & financial assistance, I am so READY for this to take-off. Literally.
If you are feeling like me, tired of common channels always showing informercials late at night, on almost EVERY channel, or being forced to watch some mindless reality TV show because Music Channels NO LONGER play enough Music Videos??? Then demand what YOU want to see more of. I understand that it is all up to the people running the channels but, I think it takes normal people like ME, to begin a NEW TREND, in Learning from what YOU see.
This is NOT going to be some channel exploiting SEX ONLY! This is going to be a channel that YOU can watch with your kids & Family. This channel will help millions get out more often. I want to be behind it all. Of course, any old help will do. As I am appreciative & hard working. I will do my best to impress, because this will be something that I wangt to leave behind, for all of mankind. In the technical sense.
I do not want to hear ideas of what kinds of channels but, if you'd like, leave a suggestion. Other than that, I am sure I have this one covered. I would like to have more input, other than just getting in touch with my local cable channel. Like, should I make the proposel to possible investors? If so, how do I PROTECT myself from having my idea, being ripped off from me? Not a Patent, but what would LEGALLY Protect my idea?
What got the Food Network started? My channel will be just as successful but, I need to know how channels like these, got off the ground, and by whom? Please give me some examples if possible.
Thank You.

Not sure how serious this post is, but you can't patent a general idea for something like a network or a television program without just doing it, and even then if it is genuinely successful you'll have imitators and copycats. It's art, not science, no patents involved, you are talking about copyright.

American Idol spawned a ton of shows.

Survivor spawned a ton of shows.

The Food Network is what it is, and there are only so many competitiors because there is only so much of a market for the content they offer.

Here is a good history of the Food Network:

Notes of a Gastronome: TV Dinners: The New Yorker

FN also occassionally runs a program on its history as well.

I found this by doing a google search of "Food Network History". You could also do the same for other networks.

Let me add a couple of my own observations. A concept is successful when the idea is good AND the time is right. Food Network, HGTV and a dozen others launched in the early '90s and matured during a time when cable was starting to transition to digital and when the DBS satellite companies were launching. All of them were actively seeking out new and unique programming. That gave the networks a chance to mature and be viable at the time when the big boys came around and started buying and consolidating network package groups.

These groups are very important today as they can be marketed as a block, thus making it easier for the carriers and the providers to negotiate carriage (ignoring Charlie for a minute :D)

If you want to be successful, you need to figure out how to get your channel carried and how to let it grow from what is going to start out as something kind of amateurish and naive, into something polished that would be considered for acquisition. Most new channels these days get started as spin-offs from existing channels, so your best bet might be to approach an existing network with a limited concept for a smaller block of time on one of their less popular channels and grow from there.
