Just logged in to let everyone know that our friend Anole has passed away on November 21stc 2014.

Anole and I have been friends since I first joined this forum in 2006. He helped me to solder a capacitor on the PCB of a Pansat 3500 I had, and we ended up in a phone conversation during the process.

From that conversation, we had regular phone calls every Saturday that lasted at least an hour each time. We talked about everything under the sun. He was a very intelligent person, and could talk on almost any subject. From those conversations, grew a great friendship. It wasn't until last year that we managed to get Facetime working and had video calls a few times.

About 6 - 8 months ago the calls grew farther apart. I asked what was wrong, and he said he had gone to the VA and gotten a Doctor assigned to him and that they had fixed him all up and he was getting better.

I didn't know at the time, and Stogie didn't either until about 3 months ago he finally told us that he had prostate cancer. It wasn't caught until late, and he knew he was dying.

I hadn't heard from him for about 3 weeks by mid November, so I called the VA hospital in Long Beach. It took me 20 minutes to get past the red tape to actually talk to Rich, but we did have a short conversation. He was in a lot of pain, and they had him pretty drugged up.

I hadn't heard from him after that until this week, I told Stogie that I would try and get through at the VA hospital again. I finally did get through this evening, and that's when they told me he had passed away on November 21st. Apparently, I was the last person outside the hospital to talk to him while he was still alive.

He had no family. Had never been married, both parents had passed away several years ago. He did have a group of friends that he ate lunch with on a regular basis, but he told me that none of them had ever been to his home.

Stogie, Phlatwound, Lak7 and I were his family along with the members of this forum that he loved so much. He will be greatly missed!!!

May he rest in Peace!!!

Such sad news. I knew he wasn't posting like he once was. Thanks for letting us know linuxman.
May he for sure rest in Peace.

Rich was one of a kind, shared his knowledge with everyone, he liked to laugh. He delighted in the picture I sent him of my adventures. I do not know if he knew how bad off he was, or was trying to put a brave face on for us. I talked to him once a week on Saturdays.....I already miss those chats...RIP Rich. The lizards will sleep a little more restless tonight.

Yes so glad that you did! He helped out tons of people on here. Lots of stuff still sticky-ed that he posted. Was a blessing to the hobby.

This forum certainly has become a FAMILY and is an excellent example of the internet's highest and best use of the "electronically typed" word. So sorry to hear the news, and familiar with his many posts. Cancer is a scary thing and doesn't discriminate in who it attacks. Let's make sure this site is supported so this caring community continues to be a shining example of good people helping each other with technology, but even more-so a place which cultivates members caring about each other, and sometimes, as has been the case with Satguys/WION Radio, teaming to raise money for causes deemed important, like the American Cancer Society!

Thank you for sharing about Anole's passing. I am in shock!

Hadn't talked or texted with him since the first of October. I had absolutely no idea of the battle he was fighting. He never let on that anything was amiss. A true gentleman and will be greatly missed! So much knowledge and a knack for sharing in a simple manner!

Rest in Peace, Rich!

R.I.P., Rich. I think I can safely say the Cancer Sucks! Too many people I know have been lost to this disease.

Sure hate to hear this but thanks for passing the news along.

I am really going to miss the brainstorming/bull sessions with Rich, he was always able to really break things down and make me look at things from a different perspective. Would, and could speak on about any subject, learned so much from him, and shared a lot of laughs.

Just a super intelligent solid man and will be greatly missed.

You know, y'all, I don't think he had any idea that so many people looked forward to hearing from him. As he slowly got away from the board, as we all do from time to time (me included, not much time anymore), I reminded him a lot that he had a lot of good thoughts and ideas that people needed to hear about...but he always laughed it off as inconsequential, unworthy. He never seemed comfortable with people looking to him for answers. Which I thought was a shame. But that was him.

I liked it when he would change his picture to show different anoles sitting on the satellite dish. He did send me a note in early November to let me know he was going away for awhile.

Sad to hear the news. :(

Rest in peach Rich.
