Back by popular demand (well sort of...I did get two PM's!)

1. GREAT to see football back as I LOVE reading about what is going on at training camp. But I just can't bring myself to watch pre-season games. I need games that count, in any sport.

2. Jeff Francoeur wants out of New York. Okaaaaaaay. I think the feeling is mutual, Jeff. This guy has the plate discipline of Vlad Guerrero without the talent of Vlad Guerrero.

3. Bouncing around between games last night, we totally missed
the Cards/Reds brawl. This is why I miss the Strike Zone channel so much.

4. Not liking the Nets off-season. I know their new-found billions are burning a hole in their pocket, but committing like $60 million to Travis Outlaw, Jordan Farmar, and Johan Petro? I like Outlaw and Farmar but they may have been wise to save the cap space.

5. Isiah must have pics of Dolan's wife. Only explanation.

6. They say there are two kinds of cyclists...those who have been hit by a car, and those who will be. Two nights ago I moved from the second group to the first. Ocean avenue in Belmar, I'm moving along pretty good and a guy cuts me off to get into a parking space. Bang. Luckily two EMT's happened to be on the boardwalk and came to me immediately. 911 is called so ambulance, stretcher, neck and back immobilized, emergency room, the whole thing. Final score is no internal damage, no broken bones, seriously sore left arm and left side of my torso (where I apparently hit the car), major road rash on my elbows and shoulders which is absolutely killing me right now but will heal quickly, major contusions in my pelvic region where I apparently hit the handlebars, and mucho damage to my $1,500 bike. Ugh. Hope to stay on track for my next triathlon on August 28.

7. Good for the NHL voiding Kovalchuk's free agent contract with the Devils. Honestly I don't mind him going to the Devils as I feel he is not a team guy and will hurt the team even if he scores 50 goals, but I want him there at a higher cap hit.

8. Gol TV and Fox Soccer channel both just went HD on DirecTV. Great stuff. Lots and lots of English Premier League, Germany Bundesliga, Spain La Liga, Italy Serie A, France Ligue I, etc., in HD! Add in DirecTV is carrying each and every match of the European Champions League, beginning with the final qualifying round next week!

9. I have a funny feeling the Browns are going to be pretty good this year if a QB steps up. Difficult division so even 8-8 would be solid, but bringing in a guy like Holmgren tends to right the ship.

10. Chipper Jones got hurt again last night. What else is new?

11. New York is a baseball city, plain and simple. Off the top of my head, so are Boston, St. Louis, possibly Cincinnati (help me out here Ramy) and Los Angeles...sort of. Otherwise football pretty much rules.

12. I'm all for alternative view points (I have a few of my own), but when you come in here and announce that playing at the Horseshoe is not intimidating for opposing teams, and Virginia Tech games at whatever the stadium in Blacksburg is called are more difficult for opponents because of the crowd, you lose credibility. Then going on and on about how good the ACC is...

13. Am I the only one who hopes Michigan returns to semi-prominence? There is just something missing in the college football world when our rival is totally out of any Big Ten discussion.

14. Here is what you should be watching on TV. Some of the series ended for the season, but perhaps they're available on demand or something. Breaking Bad on AMC...amazing show. Wow, SO tense! True Blood on HBO...outstanding. I love Sookie and Lafayette. No spoilers, I've only watched the first two episodes of this season. Entourage on HBO is back. Nurse Jackie on Showtime...fantastic. Modern Family is in reruns on ABC for the summer...totally worth watching.

15. A week and a half ago we happened to be in Seaside and we went past the 'Jersey Shore' house. Lot of cops, cameramen and onlookers. Same thing at the store on the boardwalk. There was a tent near the store with a long line of what looked like people signing waivers, probably in case they happen to appear on camera in the show. I don't get how they'll make it look like it's about a bunch of people just hanging out, when these people have become notorious here. Must be lots of editing.

16. Also, the first part of the season was a show about mostly New Yorkers hanging out in Miami. Why call it Jersey Shore?

17. Poor Mike Francesa. He's a Giant fan, and all the attention the Jets are getting is REALLY bugging him! He can't even do his radio show with a hint of impartiality when it comes to football anymore. He's also an avowed Yankee fan and he makes fun of the Mets on occasion, but the Jets have thrown him into a tizzy.

18. Does anyone still watch Sportscenter? With the MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL networks, I just don't see the need to watch those jig-dancers self-promote themselves every night. Bad enough you have to see things in crawl lines like 'Buck Showalter of ESPN has learned that Buck Showalter will be offered the Orioles manager position'.

19. Same old Buck, though. He'll get the Orioles to respectability but never to the top.

20. The Cardinals and Reds should each be 25 games over .500 with the schedules they play. Seriously, the NL Central bottom four are all very bad bottom feeders.

21. How about Ron Washington in Texas? From his positive test (cocaine?) that we found out about over the winter, he's made a nice comeback. Texas is really good. It bugs Met fans no end that their team didn't make a trade at the dealine. Many feel it's because the Mets don't want to spend money, but a BANKRUPT team loads up on talent instead!

22. Bud did not want Mark Cuban in the league. Nice work behind the scenes to make sure that didn't happen in Texas.

23. The blaring headlines about the Revis holdout give you a headache in their sheer repetition. 'Woody says Revis probably won't play this year!'. Please...it's all negotiating tactics.

24. Hard Knocks wih the Jets tonight on HBO. Should be...interesting to say the least. ;)

25. How appropriate Tim Tebow's rookie hazing haircut made him look like a friar.

you know my thoughts on Sportscenter ;)

Thank goodness for Canadian TV and TSN Sportscentre (note the spelling). They actually talk about the sports and not themselves

The league's networks pretty much get it right too. An hour of highlights on 'Quick Pitch' on MLB network is an hour of highlights of the day's/night's action. They completely talk about the games.

Quick Pitch rocks.....oh and Hazel Mae isnt too bad either :p

But I agree...want MLB hilites? watch MLB Net (Dish subs need not apply) ;)
NHL hilites..watch NHL Net

My only impertinent thought is how long it will take Rich Rodriguez to fall flat on his face and for Michigan to fire this joker. As much as I bleed Maize & Blue, I see this team going nowhere until this turd---and the entire Rich Rod experiment----is flushed.

17. Haven't listened to the show since Mad Dog left. I couldn't take only Mike when Mad Dog was off, so it must be a lot worse now.

19. Buck can only play with what he's dealt.

25. And, kudos to him for not covering it up and letting us see it. What would Dez Bryant have done?? ;)

Goodness! I hope you're ok! And I hope you got that A*hole to help out with the expenses.

9. I have a funny feeling the Browns are going to be pretty good this year if a QB steps up. Difficult division so even 8-8 would be solid, but bringing in a guy like Holmgren tends to right the ship.

I like the way you think!

When your first comment on these boards is "Miami is going to annihilate #2 Ohio State, in their own stadium by at least 2 TD's", only to take back those comments a day later is a good way to lose credibility too.

13. Am I the only one who hopes Michigan returns to semi-prominence? There is just something missing in the college football world when our rival is totally out of any Big Ten discussion.

You know what? I kinda am too. The game in 2006, dubbed "The Game of the Century" was so much fun and intense. Reason being? Both were highly competitive. Oh, and one was ranked #1 and the other #2 headed into that game. The last few years hasn't been as fun.

14. Here is what you should be watching on TV. Some of the series ended for the season, but perhaps they're available on demand or something. Breaking Bad on AMC...amazing show. Wow, SO tense! Besides the Travel Channel's "No Reservations" with Anthony Bourdain, I watch a lot of FX. Rescue Me and Louie are great. So is The League and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

That team is all about "second chances". Case and point: Josh Hamilton.

25. How appropriate Tim Tebow's rookie hazing haircut made him look like a friar.

I thought that was his halo? :)

Goodness! I hope you're ok! And I hope you got that A*hole to help out with the expenses.

When I was finally released from the hospital they told me if I start coughing up or peeing blood to come back immediately. Now I'm not the sharpest tool, but that's something I think even I could have figured out all by myself!

I thought that was his halo? :)

HA! Good one!!! :D

The accident happened around 7:00 PM on Monday and I was in the emergency room until deep into the night. I had so much pain, trouble taking a deep breath, and a huge red blotch on my left side. They were afraid my lung collapsed. When x-rays came back negative for that and my ribs I was free to go. And finally have something to eat!

Hey, has Salsa made a trip to NJ?? He's been kinda quiet here lately.... ;)

j/k

Seriously - Here's to a speedy recovery!!

If you're going to throw money, throw it to the right guys that you need.

5. Isiah must have pics of Dolan's wife. Only explanation.
Acutally, I heard he will not be back with the team.

Makes the cut I got on my knee looks like nothing.

13. Am I the only one who hopes Michigan returns to semi-prominence? There is just something missing in the college football world when our rival is totally out of any Big Ten discussion.
A rivalry is not the same when one team's down.

J-Woww and The Situation are my favorites :D

If Big Blue outplays Gang Green on the field, then he'll have a chance to brag.

Sometimes.

19. Same old Buck, though. He'll get the Orioles to respectability but never to the top.
If he can get them to .500 or a winning record, they should erect a statue of him!

20. The Cardinals and Reds should each be 25 games over .500 with the schedules they play. Seriously, the NL Central bottom four are all very bad bottom feeders.
Reminds me of the 1970s when the Big 10 was known as the Big 2 and Little 8, when Ohio State and Michigan DOMINATED their conference rivals.

All Revis wants is to be the highest paid CB in the NFL. Give the man what he wants and avoid screwing up what could be a great season!

25. How appropriate Tim Tebow's rookie hazing haircut made him look like a friar.
Friar Tebow will rule the universe! :D

1 - Exhibition NFL is a scam. At least in the other sports you get the actual players. In ENFL all you get is furture insurance salesmen at the end of their dream on the line and the "skill position" players going through the motions for a half before passing in on to other no-chancers. I ignore it.

4 - Heard more off-season NBA hype this year than ever. I just change the channel.

5 - Probably.

8 - Soccer. Fox will discover in the 1000 channel universe what others discovered in the 3, 12, 36, and 100 channel universes. Americans are uninterested in soccer.

11 - Cincy is definatly a baseball town. LA isn't any kind of town, unless "frontrunner" is a type.

13 - Michigan made a 10 year mistake when it ran off a winning coach. The beaches of sports are littered with the corpses of programs that ran off winning coaches for the next new thing. To take some joker that has moderate success in a joke league where his school had 10 times the resources of all the other teams? Huge mistake.

18 - No.

22 - Cuban is an attention seeking loser who got rich on one good idea. Ignore him and he goes away. No place for his kind in baseball.

13. Am I the only one who hopes Michigan returns to semi-prominence? There is just something missing in the college football world when our rival is totally out of any Big Ten discussion.
A rivalry is not the same when one team's down.

The Buckeye's still have about 5-6 more years to even it out from the "Cooper years"....

22 - Cuban is an attention seeking loser who got rich on one good idea. Ignore him and he goes away. No place for his kind in baseball.

I disagree, I think Cuban owning your favorite team would be AWESOME !!!! :D

He's no different than a few of the current owners, if you need some one he'll go get them.

Had he bought the Cub's, that would have been GREAT for Chicago.

It's OK for Stienbrenners to buy players, but not OK for Cuban to do the same thing ?
Steinbrenner is only one, there are others that are the same way already there.

Not this year, at least until week 2. :)
