Hang on a minute guys. This thread was about ME and MY question about which receiver to get for MY first FTA system.

I don't remember asking about the AntiqueTex 001 used by Fred and Wilma Flintstone for their Free-to-Rock system.

Let's keep it about the Coolsat 5000 and Fortec Mercury II for now. (Although, I'm really really really leaning towards the Coolsat. Good choice?)

Ebay has some decent prices on CS5k's, that's where I got mine a while back when N2 hit. I jumped on them when the market lost interest at the time, but with new stuff in N2 the demand has rebounded somewhat. Still pretty good. I saw a few for less than 100.

I am looking at getting a fortec (classic or maybe mercury II) myself so I can play with one of them I am only a couple days into FTA and already I want another receiver to play with! CURSE YOU ICEBERG and PSB (among others) that got me interested in FTA!

Also, I just saw a used mercury II on ebay looks to be a good price http://cgi.ebay.com/Fortec-Mercury-...ryZ15071QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I was looking on eBay too. But, I will probably go with a legitimate dealer where I can get the whole package at once, and have proper customer support as well.

Let me know how the Mercury II compares to the 5000. I'm prolly gonna go with the 5000. So, I'm sure you'll end up posting how much better the MII is!!!

Well, I am no expert at all, but I like the CS5k alot so far, especially being a newbie, other than some stuff iceberg told me about deleting $ channels, it's pretty straightforward.

As for the legit dealer stuff, I was very close many times on buying a package from Sadoun. I liked his packages and we know from here he's very helpful. I am gonna get my motor from him when I go that route.

I wasn't going to respond to this, but this post really has me a little peeved. And normally I would have waited until the morning but nah. Cant sleep (just got done watching ECW on Global TV) :)

Gary let me explain how the FTA area works here. This is a very unique area unlike the rest of satelliteguys.

Why?

Because we do this a lot here. Get off topic on a specific item and talk about various things
-old receivers we've had and their quirks
-projects we did
-why we got into this hobby
-how we found X satellite

Yes we sometimes stray off the original topic but we end up coming back. So god forbid we talked about other receivers we have had in YOUR thread about YOUR decision to buy YOUR FTA box. But again, some of us do that on occasion. Look at some threads here that have a subject and are 8-10 pages. We have some good laughs and learn about a lot of various FTA stuff. But we usually get back to the subject. Thats what makes the FTA area so great. We run a different ship here and most people enjoy it. We're a little more laid back. Heck, we have a thread on "what FTA projects do you have going on this weekend?"

Last I checked the Dish or Direct area doesn't have that :)

Where else can someone come here and post that their house burned down and wondered if anybody had any FTA stuff for sale or to donate and now the OP will have a decent system here soon because of the members helping out. What do you think would have happened if that was in the Dish or Direct area? They would have said "call Dish" or "go on Ebay and buy a new box".

We just like to have fun here. So if a thread may start going off topic, just chill. It will come back sooner or later :)

:)

I was kidding. Wasn't it obvious? Nobody is THAT selfish. Not even me. Jeez. I'm the f-ing king of off-topic. Now, who needs to chill? ;)

You guys, and especially you my friend, have been of incredible help. I learn from everything I read here, whether it's on-topic, off-topic, or in another dimension from the original topic.

I'll be ordering my system on Monday. So, I'll be full of questions for the install next weekend. Be as off friggin topic as you want with the answers. :D

Full of questions? Boy, I hope you don't try to beat my record! :) I bet I hold the record for questions :) I should be the smartest FTA'er in the world :) Congrats on ordering your system. What ya getting?

I'm gonna go with a motorized system based around the Coolsat 5000. I'll be ordering from Brian at SatelliteAV on Monday. Not only are they a SatGuys sponsor, but he has given me an excellent package price, some good info, and they are located close enough for cheap and quick ground shipping. (I can even drive up there if I had some kind of FTA emergencey. :D )

Actually, the shipping is so quick, I may be installing it on a weeknight. So, be ready for those questions.

Awesome. I can't can't wait to hear how things go Gary. Proximity is why next time I will go with Sadoun (like Dishstore) UPS ground is 1 day from me, so it's a quick turnaround. I like the fast shipping both guys seem to extra willing to help out.
