Direct is giving new customers nfl sunday ticket free again :)

True, but I'm waiting for late July and early August to get the multi sports pack free for the fall again. As long as DirecTV gives Sunday Ticket free to new subs, I'll bet Dish will give multi sports free to current subs in order to stay.

Last year:
8 months of free Starz
6 months of free HBO
5 months of free Multi-Sports Pack
4 months of free Cinemax
3 months of free Showtime

Need I say more?

Mad Men has won fifteen Emmys and four golden globes. The Walking Deads season two finale was the most watched basic cable showing in history. Breaking Bad has won six Emmys and had two golden globe nominations. The killing has had near universal praise. Regardless of how you feel about a tv provider numbers don't lie. AMC has some of the most watched and critically acclaimed series on television. I work for Dish and enjoy my job, and I also enjoy their service at home, but no matter what AMC is an important channel. What other channel had shows of this caliber? What are all y'all watching Swamp People and cake boss? Amc is a great channel and I wouldn't let my blind love for a company dictate what I thought about a channel.
P.S. some of this dish love is kinda weird. Do you form attachments like this to other companies that provider a service? Would you be up in arms if Roto-Rooter changed their business model?

It's not about blind love for DISH. Believe me, I criticize DISH for all the things I consider that they do wrong. It is about the bigger picture here. Charlie is standing up to channel provider companies that feel the need to hike their carriage fees to the stratosphere , every time they come up for renewal. IF he doesn't stand up to them ,just like Disney- with their pay twice for the same content -for both hd and sd feeds, we will all be paying over $100.00 a month for basic programming, BEFORE the DISH , charge it because we can ,fees and DISH cost of doing business in your state Sur charges are added and before state Taxes are added in. I'm for ala carte and or theme packs that you add as needed. Especially the sports channels. THey can go to a premium pack that you can add if you want ,or NOT as in my case, and save some money. DISH is right to say NO to Cablevision and their extortion fees based on this one channels ratings. This is just GREED on their part. Wait till the season is over and you can watch their critically acclaimed programs on Netflix in hd. I would rather see my bill stay the same , and watch a little delayed ,then pay more and more. Especially since if other channel provider companies see AMC and Cablevision pull this off , they will follow and ask for higher and higher carriage fees. I say Get um Charlie !

I'm not a DISH sub, but if they drop AMC it will be another in a long line of carriage disputes that will be the reason DISH will likely never be a considered at the the two locations I pay for TV service at.

While Dish definitely has (or at least seems to have ;)) more of these disputes than other providers, those other providers are not immune to them either....

They're not, but they other providers don't appear to wallow in them the way DISH does. Their drive to be a few bucks cheaper and general attitude towards these kinds of disputes is self-perpetuating and it appears at least to me will always be a norm for the service.

Only question is which group of channels is next, and will their departure be permanent.

for dish wanting to keep prices low all the time, they sure didn't hesitate to add that surcharge for people in Texas.

That's different. They want to keep the top programming packs low for all customers. The surcharge is another made up DISH fee or TAX in this case and they decide which state gets to pay it. Some pay more than others , because DISH decides that this is the cost of doing business in that state. Just more revenue to pad the bottom line for old Charlie.

Well I love my Dish service, but today being held hostage in yet another programming dispute has pushed me to cancel. My wife doesn't want to take the chance of losing AMC and since Dish doesn't seem to have any plans to carry FitTV we are going back to cable.

Okay this is ridiculous. Extortion? Really? Unless you are part of these PRIVATE negotiations than you have no idea what they are actually asking for or how far apart the two sides are. To claim the price AMC is asking for is extortion without even knowing what they are asking for is completely ridiculous. Also, your bill will not stay the same. After the price freeze is over they will raise their rates just like everyone else. They may jump substantially to make up for the time period that they couldn't raise it.

Sorry, but I consider asking for an increase that is so much money a month per sub, that a company like DISH has to threaten to drop you from their lineup, extortion. But then again I don't really know how much it is . I have heard somewhere it was .75 cent a sub for AMC .

I think this is payback for rainbow/voom channels that was dropped couple years ago by DISH that a lawsuit ensued for breach of contract , so now that contract expires that there is no means for negotiating while the lawsuit continues, but you are also hurting subscribers in doing so, so I think is bull for DISH to say is for low ratings when they know well that there are good shows and occasional movies in there sure it's not like the old AMC and nobody,s sure how much they are asking regardless what they like to tell you.

You really can't consider it anything, if you don't know what they are asking. Plus, a company like Dish might threaten them for other reasons besides the negotiations at hand. They do things differently than other companies. In this case, a corporation is a person...his name is Charlie.

But then again I don't really know how much it is .
Bingo.

It isn't. People keep quoting AMC's CEO from an earnings call or shareholder meeting, where he said he thought their value was 75c per viewer. But, didn't expect to actually be paid that amount now or in the near future.

It's pretty obvious from Dish's behavior that this is more than just the standard carriage contract negotiations. It's a reasonable assumption that the Voom lawsuit enters into it.

Yes especially when they ask you to use streaming services like Netflix or Amazon which is not good business from a paytv service provider.

Yes, this is the kicker for me. Why tell your customers to try other services. Do you really want them to see if they can live with those alternatives and then drop you? It's almost like Dish saying we don't want those channels and the people who watch them!

Can you see going to a steak house and the waiter telling you that we will not sell you that T bone, that cut cost to much.Just go and buy it at the store and fix it at home:)
