I currently have a two tv set up. The Sat and OTA (roof) come into my house at the same point.

From here my sat signal is as follows. Satellite in, output to living room (vip622), and output to bedroom (no receiver, but communicates with vip622 in living room).

From there also my OTA HD signal is as follows. Antenna in, power (AC) in, output to living room (vip622).

I only have one coaxial that runs to my bedroom (currently the satellite). My question is really this....."Can i combine the sat signal and OTA HD signal into the one coaxial that runs to the bedroom? And if so, how?"

The basement is unfinished and I could split the OTA HD signal and run a brand new coaxial to my bedroom and drill a hole through the floor, but would rather not do this (but would if i have to, confusing eh?).

So pretty much......can it be done? and how?

Thanks to all of you for any input. I realize how often experts get hit up for advice and I do appreciate it. I don't have the funds to pay a professional to do this for me. Let me know if you have any questions restoring 1981 honda c70 passports (one of my few expertise), or any math question (math teacher).

Cheers,

pfan

You'll need (2) two way splitters and a short coax jumper.

You'll need to set your tv2 modulated output to a different channel that is not in use on your antenna, put a good separation between the channels.

Here's a half baked diagram

Would this work if instead of OTA it were cable tv? Analog 2-78 are the channels used on the cable system....OTA channels in this DMA are 3,9,18,30, 36, 42,46, 55 and 64

Cable and OTA shares some of the same frequencies I tink... maybe channel 24 ?

Trial and error I suppose.
ok...I guess I should have been more specific in that question.. But anyway, with cable would the configuration be the same...Assuming that it would work...Hope that's not a dumb question..
Reason I ask is I ran into a situation where the cust had internat'l only and cable tv....He had ordred a dual tuner to go with his existing system. TV 2 was connected to cable. He wanted satellite there as well and I thought i needed to run an additonal line to the tv-2 location. The house did have a wiring panel and I tried to use splitters in a number of different applications and couldn't make it work.. The customer said not to worry about the cable tv on that one...Then guess what?...Two weeks later he calls Dish to complain that I didn't hook up his cable tv.. Event though he signed off on a statement I had written on the work order.. I had him sign off right next ot that statement as well as in the normal place for the rest of the work.....Of course Dish nailed us with a TC....Yes that's for another thread..
Anyway went back up there and explained to the cust about the second line and how it needed to be routed from the panel thru the crawlspace and up the side of his brick two story home to a tv on an exterior wall he said no to that. Had I known about the splitter config I woud have een abler to at least try to see if it was possible.......

Yes, you can combine any OTA or cable incoming signal into the TV2 backfeed using the diagram provided by rcdallas. You just have to use the trial and error method to find output channels for the dish receiver that don't conflict with the existing channels from the other source.

so the splitters would be behind my 622 instead of in the basement, where it all comes into the house? I just assume to do it there, but as I have said, I don't know much. I still don't quite understand how to get the sat and OTA into that one coaxial goin to that room.

Here is how I do it. All connections done in basement.

Hire an installation technician that knows what you don't and get it done right the first time.

And pay $50-$100 for something that he can do simply and easily? With all the negative comments about installation technicians I'd be hesitant to do that.

Oh please!

Or learn a little about this stuff and do it yourself. Even if you buy the ridiculouslyl overpriced diplexers at Radio Shack it should still be much cheaper to do it yourself and it really isn't that hard. Certainly doable by someone who can find this forum on their own and post a question (both require about the same amount of technical skill).

Channel Plus 3025 All-in-One Multiroom Video Distribution System

This is what I use to do what I believe you are asking for.

My Antenna COAX goes in.

I have three COAX connections leaving this going to three TV's

I have my Sat hooked to this with RCA cables ( Stand Def Only for me) and programmed so that on any of the three TV's if I turn to Ch 63 ( I programmed) I can watch my SAT receiver.

I have my Stand Def DVD player hooked with RCA cables to input #2 and I can use it on any TV when tuned to CH66 ( I selected this channel too)

I can use my TV remote to see any over the air channel, they all pass through from my antenna with no problem and no issue with the HD signal to my 2 sets that are HD. By going to 63 or 66 I can get the other inputs without a mess and t is simle enough for my wife to use.

Works great for what I needed and I started with some basic combiners but there was too much interference for my liking

Ok, got this figured out to the best i can understand and here it is.....

sat comes into house, splits to living room, splits to bedroom.

antenna comes into house, splits to living room, splits to bedroom.

My living room has two coaxial so it is OK for sat/ota to run seperate to there.

My bedroom has ONLY one coaxial, so to run both the sat/ota I need to combine these signals using a combiner and my tv will realize channel 73 is sat and the rest our my locals in HD.

I ran this by a guy I work with and he says it should work, but would like your final approval. I've attached a diagram.

Thanks as always, I have solutions. More importantly, I've learned a little.

You can't split a satellite signal like that.

Just a friendly FYI. Lowe's has reasonably priced diplexers at under $9. I think the brand is Ideal and they work wonderfully.
