Well the last couple of weeks have been interesting.. losing signal strength it seems by the day.. This evening it seems to have gone. I have about 50% of signal strength on 101 and 75% +/- on one other satellite.. the rest? 0% .. It's trying to update guide info, doesn't seem to be doing anything.. I don't know what else to do.. I have about a 95% clear view of the sky where the dish is.. I may move the dang thing myself and attach it to the house that way it CAN'T move.. but for now I'm stuck and can't believe they want $50 just to re-align.. I don't have the protection plan.. they said I could add it but can't have any work done for 30 days... What can I do myself? I don't really understand azimuth and elevation.. what about tilt? The DirecTV dish pointing site tells me 40.2 elevation, and 214.9 for azimuth.. Where is the azimuth setting?? I can see the elevation.. damn I have a head ache.. and can't watch tv to relax..:rant:

azimuth is where to aim in the sky on a compass

215 is SSW...SW would be 225 on a compass

Sounds like the dish needs a small tweak in aiming. You can probably do it yourself

Try and call a local installer, they may come out and do it , not sure what they would charge, but it would be done earlier than 30 days.

btw, if you had the PP you'd be covered and D* would be heading out.

Yes, you can make the adjustment yourself if your confident with it.

Where are you located that you lose signal every day and it comes back ?

Can you post the transponder signals for 101 and whatever other sats you get?

I can post anything you want on here but this will be assuming I have the dish pointed correctly.. I changed the elevation to 40 (says to be 40.3) and haven't changed the side-to-side movement at all as I don't know how to measure that one exact.. so here go's nothing... will not download guide info...

The numbers posted is suppose to be a place to start.

First and foremost, is your mast plumb ?
Very important, as if it's not then all the other numbers will be off as well.

This is why everybody should take a sharpie (black marker) to the dish mount immediatly after install, avoid downtime and major expense.

Ok.. after working on this for some time I almost have it.. Signal strength is still poor, maybe 70% and lower across the board.. But I'm getting conflicting results for where I need to point before fine-tuning.. DirecTV.com's Dish Pointer says Elevation: 40.2 Azimuth: 214.9...... and dishpointer.com says;

Satellite: DirecTV 5 LNB (99, 101, 103, 110, 119W)
Elevation: 40.1°
Azimuth (true): 209.2°
Azimuth (magn.): 217.0°

Now the Elevation is about the same.. but Azimuth is different.. What do I need here? And what about tilt? I have it on a mast in the ground, how high from the ground should the dish be? Does that matter??

When one peaks a dish, the calculated azimuth and elevation are starting points. Once you have a signal, watch the signal strength screen and move the dish very slowly and in small increments while peaking the signal strength.

Does trying this yourself offer any understanding as to why the ask a fee to do it? Just sayin'

LoL.. You damn right! After all this the $50 seems reasonable if not low!! I'm improving though, signals are coming in better than ever.. but I'm still get zero's on a few satellites.. I'll post numbers in a bit... I'm done for the night..

#'s on all satellites and transponders as of right now ..

I think that's it.. kinda sleepy at the moment.. but I think I'm finally getting somewhere.. Is this all the satellites I should be seeing? I subscribe to HDTV/DVR and the Premiere Package subscription with HD Extra, etc.

Post my signal strength as requested and discussion dies? Did I not post what was wanted? I'm concerned that I'm not getting equal signal strength across the board..

All your number are a bit low.

Is there anything that could be blocking the signal ?
Tree branch or anything like that ?

At the most maybe the edge of a pine tree branch.. I can trim that.. but it's not in the way that I can see.. I may have to cut it back though...
