High bitrate recording is a major unresolved issue for usb connected external hard drives. Someone mentioned that connecting a IDE drive to the internal connector may work better...but.......that appears to be in the experimental stage still. One Terabyte is the max for a fat32 partition

Thank you!

I just read that this receiver can only store up to 5,000 TV and radio channels. This is a real disappointment for a receiver with this many high end features.

One the bright side it can display Teletext like other receivers and I began to wonder does anyone use the Teletext feature in their receivers? I know I never have.

Is this teletext on the openbox/solomend receiver and if so what satellite?
:)

Thank you for the hidden menu information but I couldn't get the pictures that you said were available. I am logged in and not a guest.

WOW!!! Ordered the Openbox S9 receiver from HyperMegaSat Tuesday afternoon (10/26) and it arrived Friday morning (10/29).
We then had to leave for the weekend and I didn't get to open the box yet. :( We are now back home and I hope to be able to get some time to begin playing before yet another work week begins.

I finally took the plunge and ordered an Openbox S9 PVR HD receiver from HyperMegaSat for $175.89 including shipping.

With many channels like Montana PBS switching over to DVB-S2 I knew it was time to upgrade.

I'd be interested in hearing how well Montana PBS comes in for you. Thats the main reason why I bought my Openbox S9 PVR HD. Sadly, Montana PBS has a very low signal and breaks up / freezes a lot. Its not watchable for me.

First Impressions:

HyperMegaSat:
Shipping: Excellent
Packaging: I would of preferred receiver to be shipped within a larger box surrounded by packing peanuts for better protection during shipment.
Extras: Came with a 4 port DISEQC switch, but no HDMI cable or even batteries for the remote control. Come on throw in some batteries at least. Some retailers who sell this receiver for $175 and less include a HDMI cable.

Openbox S9 Receiver:
Power Cord: Could be longer. My other FTA receivers plug into the power strip nicely behind the entertainment center. This one I had to move closer in order to reach.
Receiver / Remote: "Cheap", but does the job.
Blind Scan: Fast and accurate. Scanned in Galaxy 17 (C Band) and AMC 21 (KU-Band) only to test receiver. Galaxy 17 picked up the Steelers tonight in HD which looked fantastic. It was also nice seeing the additional PBS channels on AMC-21. Montana PBS is however weak and breaks up.
Info Graphic: Could be improved, but better than some receivers I have seen.

Tomorrow night, I'll do further testing.

Updated Remote

I just saw a picture of the updated remote control for this receiver (pictured below) on another site and it does NOT look like the one I received. HyperMegaSat does however specify in their website that the new updated remote DOES ship with the receiver. Was I ripped off? Is HyperMegaSat selling older equipment?

cant say much about the remote!maybe the one from the other site is an older type.I have bought from hyper before and getting what they advertized. On a side note! i dont think its a problem with the receiver when dealing with the weak sig of the new montana tp!there have been several others including me that had problems getting a good watchable signal from montana.

I have the same receiver and didn't know that it does Teletext. Where did you find it, what bird and tp?

I agree Montana PBS breaking up is not the receivers fault. It is just one of the main reasons why I purchased this receiver. I will probably adjust one of my larger dishes to AMC21 soon to get a better picture.

thats version 3 of the remote.
you got version 2.
the first 1 was not very good, the 2nd was a little better, version 3 i have not got 1 yet but i am told it is better.

That sounds correct. The remote I received looks different from the one pictured in the manual, so I believe I have version 2. I will probably purchased version 3 after playing with the receiver more. I'm finding that I must aim the remote right at the satellite receiver in order for it to work. If I aim at the TV just 2 feet away it often doesn't work. I might just move the receiver above the TV to resolve this problem. It will also resolve the short power cord problem.

I just ordered the new version 3.0 remote control for $19.95 from Fridge FTA. This new remote looks a lot better and should work better then the older version 2.0 which came with the receiver from HyperMegaSat.

I believe a company like HyperMegaSat should be shipping these receivers with the new version 3.0 remote, batteries for the remote and possibly even a HDMI cable. Plus they should ship in a larger box for better protection during shipment.
