Hi-
My first post, hope I get it right.I have a Sonset DTH-6500 receiver,Sonset LKU standard lnbf, and a Winegard 2076 dish, and a SG-2100 motor..I also have a old direct tv dish and lnbf that I use to get NASA on 119. I also like RTN on AMC 9.
My problem is that when I hook up either a diseqc 2x1 switch or a 22 khz switch I get a bothersome constant hum on the audio as soon as I hook up all three wires to the switch, with only 2 I don't get the hum and of course doing without the switches I don't get the hum, usually.Every so often I get a hum just connected to one of the dishes and usually if I turn the receiver off and on it goes away. The feedthrough, where I put the switch is about 15 feert from the motor and 15 feet to the tv and receiver.
I like to watch these 2 stations but have to go out and change the hookup.,any help will be greatly appreciated.

I got kind of confused trying to follow all that, but from audio and radio type experience, I'd say you have a faulty ground (actually I should direct you to the shielding on the coax) connection somewhere. Does the same dish cause the hum? I'm assuming a 60 cycle, or possibly a 120 cycle hum generally associated with the 60 cycle power company frequency (of course, if you're in Canada, you may have 50 cycle current - not sure there, and the other would be 100 cycle hum). I think I'd look carefully at EACH of the cable ends in use on the dishes and to/from the switches to the receiver.

Good luck :up. There are others that will be adding in on this that may be more familiar with equipment problems that may cause the same thing.......

Thanks everyone for the ideas,I will change all the fittings and check the cables and ground block this weekend.I get the hum from both dishes.

I had the same receiver that you have and I ditched it! I purchased a Fortec Star Dynamic elsewhere after the problems I had with the Dth 6500. When the motor was hooked up to the previous receiver the humming came thru tv speakers loud enough to drown out the normal audio. It happened only after the motor went from from one satellite to the next. Try and bypass the Sg2100 and go straight to the lnb on the dish see if that fixes the problem. If it does then do what I did an get a nice receiver. Also I noticed that everytime you scanned for new channels on the DTH it loaded duplicates of the previous channels. I had copies of some channels 3 times! Hope this helps Blind:)

That's what I was thinking, that the receiver itself was causing it, possibly due to bad or inadequate filtering in the rectifier stage of it's power supply.

Thanks DishDigger,SatPhreak,And Tron for the ideas.I think Blindowl hit it right on the head.I bypassed the SG-2100 and the hum went away immediately,it stays gone most of the time, when it shows up I have to turn the receiver on and off and it goes away again. Now i can watch either NASA or RTN without going out and changing cables around.
I do have another sysem that is pointed at 97 West and my wife watches her Thai TV on.It is a Fortec 36" Dish and a Fortec Classic Receiver. She doesn't like me messing with it but let me try it on my system.I got NASA tv with the switch hooked up and no hum.Was going to try for AMC 9 but got a few feeds, never got those with my other receiver, then it was about time for the Thai soap opera so had to get it back in the other room before I messed something up.
I will be getting another receiver when I can. Also thanks to Eurosports84 for your thoughts about it maybe being in the receiver also.
Thanks everyone!

Floridafta, glad I could help. I fought with that receiver for almost two months. There are plenty of other good name units out there...maybe a good used one. Blind:)
