This is a question about the Hughes HTL-HD, but not strictly about D*.
Bail now if you don't use an HTL-HD.

I have been using the HTL-HD since last Aug, and am still confused
about one aspect of how the OTA digital channels work. Specifically,
how channels are detected and added (or not) to the selection list.

In our area (San Jose CA) we have a lot of digital OTA channels and
most appear in the selection list after doing an automatic station
scan.

Occasionally, an digital station will drop off the list. I can do a
complete channel scan and some reappear, some don't. I just assume
that those that don't reappear are off-air. OK.

The wierd thing is that to manually add some of these stations
requires entering a channel number different than the one being
added. For example, to manualy add
4.1/4.2 I must enter chan 57
5.1 I must enter chan 29
7.1/7.2 I must enter chan 24

And, when manually adding chan-57 the display shows it is adding
channel 4.1 as the digital channel. Etc.

What I would like to know is:

- Is this something specific to the Hughes HTL-HD?
- If not, is there a WWW site where this channel mapping is
documented? The broadcaster's sites don't help much.

Thanks

You DO understand that a broadcaster's actual digital station is broadcast on a totally different number than their analog counterpart? Most digital stations also send info to the HD receivers to "remap" those actual digtial numbers to their analog numbers in the receivers. BUT, when you want to do a manual scan of a single digital station, you MUST enter the ACTUAL digital number, NOT the remapped analog number.

Go you www.tvradioworld.com & it will give you both sets of off-air channels in all markets.

Thanks dishrich. I do understand this now, but it was pretty strange until I figured it out.

BTW: I wandered around tvradioworld.com for a while and didn't find what I wanted. But I accidentally found http://quickguide.titantv.com and if you go to their QuickGuide it lists both sets of chan numbers for the stations in your ZIP... pretty nice.

Try this link & just click on the dropdown under USA & select your state & you'll see ALL the markets & stations for your state. Then just click on "quick list" for your market & they'll all pop right up. It's actually pretty comprehensive & does, in fact, list EVERY local digital & analog station. (which is what you ARE looking for ;) ;) )

Here's you market listings:
