Yes, you can. But you won't get any of the new HD channels available from DirecTV. Eventually the only HD channels that receiver will get are your local channels. I prefer the HR20 to the Tivo. It's much faster and I like the interface better, and I can get all the HD channels from DirecTV.

I have the distant feeds and the East Coast ones are HD. The reason I like Tivo better is because I liked the dual buffers a lot and I have this HDDVR for over a year and I still miss that.

I am getting another DVR from D* for my other TV's because they are not HD and I thought it would be nice to have that dual buffer feature.

In another thread I discussed about getting the picture to additional rooms and I had it working with VCR out but every time I call for service they tell me that is why I am having a problem and getting lousy reception in HD. Last time out the guy disconnected the VCR and nothing is better since. I will be following up on that.

The output to the other TV's that are not hd looks weird because the box is set for widescreen and so the picture is not great.

Would a regular Tivo box allow me to get those channels except for the HD locals? I really don't need an expensive one. I acutally have a D* Tivo with a small hard drive that I took off line a while ago.
