Is the Hughes 80 gig Tivo a good buy for $80 at Bestbuy.

It is an open box special that has all the accesories.

I heard the hughes does now have the updated software like the R10....aka folders and stuff.

Will that be upgraded and would you buy it at that price?

I have that model.

So far I love it.

Since it's a DirectTV/Tivo, and if you choose DirectTV at $4.95/month for your Recording Options and Season Pass etc, you will not get the update of folders and other features that Tivo themselves are offering.

But, if you were to choose Tivo as your Season Pass service etc etc, you may be able to update to the latest Tivo Software, which I think is Version 7 or something. You might want to call Tivo and ask them about that. Cause I really don't know, but I would ASSume you would get the latest Tivo software.

I just chose the DirectTV route for $4.95/month, compared to Tivo $12.95/month option at this time.

I bought mine for $99, it's my first Tivo and just having the recording features, season pass, I find it more than worth it at this time.

I will worry more about bells and whistles on an HD Tivo device in the future.

One other option I like about this device is that it had two tuners.

If you run a second line from your dish, you can record 2 shows at once. I have noticed other Tivo units don't have this.

One feature that IS missing from this device is recording speeds. It's set at whatever it is and you don't have any option to change recording speeds.

If it's your first TIVO I say get it, IMO.

How long have you been a directv sub??? If you have been for awhile, call 800-600-8977 and ask them what the pricing is on a new DirecTivo. There are numerous threads, here, AVSforum and at tivocommunity with people(me included) getting them for next to nothinginstalled ($14.95 handling fee out of pocket). I got an R10 on my second Tivo unit.
