I've only had my HR34-700 for a couple of weeks now and in comparison to an HR24-100 receiver I have in a bedroom, I've noticed the following issues with the HR34 (which I would like to know IF this is "normal" or maybe I have a faulty HR34):

1) Guide scrolling NOT as fast/smooth compared to HR24

2) Pressing channel digits on the remote sometimes does NOT take you to that channel (banner closes - remains on current channel)

3) "Quick Tune" menu sometimes SLOW to pop-up

4) Remote control navigation in menu feels a little "delayed" (similar to issue #1 above)

Are these ALL *current*known issues with the HR34 or is mine an exception?

Thanks

It is what it is! I think they tried to cram too many tuners and not enough ram and processing power to run it silky smooth!!!

1. I turned off scolling effects...works much better
2. known issue
3. I dont use that so cant coment
4. other than #2 issue I dont see any slowness

After a software update I always do a double red button reboot....that usually clears up the speed issue

2) Is not only an HR34 problem.

Yeah, it drags at times, but its gotten a lot better. I would not trade the space and tuners for anything though.

4. other than #2 issue I dont see any slowness

So you're saying that the HR34 is as * fast and smooth * as the HR24?

In my experience, the HR24 is blazing fast and the response time (remote commands) are almost instant with hardly any delay (which the same can't be said about the HR34).

Is this unique to my HR34 only then?

After a software update I always do a double red button reboot....that usually clears up the speed issue

Can you please explain this?

I never had a HR24 so dont know

The HR24 has been out for a while now..the HR34 has been out a year

see above. It is not unique to yours only. I think all of us have experienced slowness in the HR34

Can you please explain this?
right hand side of the receiver flip down the little door
press the red button to reboot the receiver
let it cycle through all the way until you have video back
then redo it again

a double red button reboot usually clears the guide and also the gremlins

Hi Ice (and all for that matter),

I'm fairly new to the forum. I had a 34 and 3- 31's installed on Saturday (dumped Comcast). I have noticed some latency on the remotes for the 31's and was wondering if you do the double red button reboot on the 31's as well as the 34? If so, did that speed up their remote functions as well?

Thanks for all the good info you provide!

To the op. having both yes the hr24 is faster than the 34. I don't think it's hardware related and more of a software issue. Like mentioned above the hr34 is fairly new and the software isn't as mature as the one for the 24. question is when will directv figure it out if it is indeed a software issue. Having said that the pro's out number the cons so no regrets here.

I have two C31's and response time is considerably slow....especially compared to the HR34 and it is no contest compared to the HR24...I don't think all the kinks have been worked out quite yet....
one has to be very patient at this time using a C31.
