I currently have 3 HR24s and I am done with my 2 year contract. I was going to call and see if I can get them to come down on the price of the HR34 and replace one of the HR24s with it. That would mean I'd have an HR34 and 2 HR24s on my system. Will there be anything i'd have to do to keep it working like now (whole home, etc.)...since it is 9 tuners do i need to upgrade any of the connections to handle that? I'm just trying to figure out the logistics involved before calling...

Also, is there any specific number i'd call to ask about this? A retention number? Any suggestions on getting the best deal possible (someone here got them to give him an HR34 for $50 + install)...

Just yell CANCEL when dialing the customer service number...that'll take you straight to retention department. Instead of playing games with the rep, just be up front like I was and tell them the $50 plus install offer is one that you've seen given to another customer. That's what I did.....30 seconds on hold and she was back with the offer. If you're looking for programming discounts to boot, I'd do it in 2 separate calls. One for programming and one for equipment.

I hate playing games....so I try to be as realistic as possible in both expectations and propositions...most of the time, it works out. Just don't try to haggle on the install......they get a little testy about that subject for some reason :)

just be nice
if retentions doesnt work, send email to the office of the president
i had to and was able to get hr34 for free with $50 install

With nine tuners you will need a swm16 switch with the 4 line kaku lnb. As far as who to contact you will have better luck with retentions.

Sent from my Iconia Tab using SatelliteGuys
In other words, you need a SWim 16 and your Dish has to be a Slimline 3 or 5 LNB.
Unless your ordering this from solid signal, Directv knows what they need. They are not going to send you out the HR34 to install yourself. They will be installing it.

Excellent info everyone...I like the idea of just being upfront about what i've seen on these forums. I don't mind someone doing the install for $50 if it means they will also be bringing me a SWim 16 to boot. I could do it myself, but if that is non-negotiable then I'll live with it.
