HR22 and two ethernet ports?

MY father in-law got a new HR22 today and I noticed that it had 2 ethernet ports and read that it might a for multiple devices and act as a switch so with that said it this what it does:
From the cable modem I take that ethernet cable and connect it to the HR22 ethernet port 1 and then take an ethernet cable from the HR ethernet port 2 and connect it to the computer?
Will I be able to be on the web and use VOD on the HR22 at the same time?
While I got you all here anyone know of a cheap wireless bridge with multiple ports for making more than one device wireless?

The 2nd port is a passthrough. I currently have mine going to my xbox360. But that is what the 2nd port is for a passthrough switch for another eithernet device be it a samsung tv xbox3shitty or ps3 etc.
