Just bought from some guy, but he did not tell me that I needed a phone line to use the damn DVR. Is there a way around this?

Do you have any friends that have DirecTV and a phone line? You only need it plugged in long enough to activate then you can take it back home...
Tell them that you heard that they were exchanging all MPEG2 HD receivers for MPEG4 receivers and see what they say.

Because appearantly I am not as smart as I thought I was. I really had no idea these did not get the new channels..
Unfortunately for me the ebay listing didnt say they didnt get them either and appearantly he kjnew they didnt..Sort of dishonest but thats ok Im deal with that as well..

Thanks for the offer, I just called and shut it off, going to try to get my money back on it. I also called D* and asked to get antother HD DVR, but wnated to make two payments on it, and He could do nothing, of course that is what he said, so I just had them turn on my H20, I guess Ill have save up some more cash to get another HR21 as if I have not spent enough money with this company..

don't feel bad, i just bought an hr10 from fleabay for a little less than 50 bucks. i knew about the phone line and i would need a new access card. when i ordered the card, i was told it had to be activated within 7 days or i would get hit with another 20 dollar charge. explained, i have a bad back and rheumatoid arthritis and i just can't hook-up and/or move dvr's. then they wanted to charge me 75 dollars just to move one of my hr20's to the bedroom to hook-up the hr10 in the living room.
after numerous phone calls, i talked with a nice lady in retention who scheduled me an installation at no charge. but i had one punk csr go so far to tell me i was lying about my physical condition just to get something for free. told her she was welcome to my handicapped acessible house anytime....then i slammed the receiver on her ears

Lucky for me on that box I bought I did not have to get an ew card, they just activated it for me. unfortunately I cannot use the DVR or I Would keep it, so I am letting Paypal try to get my money back, if not Ill be thowing it back up where I got it from.

Crap...mine cost a grand when I bought it and it was obsolete in less than two years. Next time read before you buy.
I just swapped my HR 10-250 for a Hr21.
The installer let me keep the 10-250, but I guess its junk.
Can I pull out the HD and get an E-sata enclosure to use as a supplement for my HR21?
Can the OTA tuners be used at all?
