hr-24 screen format question

I have a new hr-24 and am getting white frames on both sides of the picture only in sd . I`ve changed the resolution to 1080i and am getting a 1080i plus pillar box format which I believe explains the white frames along both sides of the picture. how do I get rid of the pillar box and get a full screen picture on sd?? the picture is full screen on hd channels.

Nope. It is the second button from the top on the left-hand side or your remote.

DUHHH, it`s clearly marked FORMAT. i`ve had directv for over 10 years and I guess I never figured out how to fully use the remote.

The bars are supposed to be there, it keeps most SD channels in proper aspect ratio...

I haven't seen bars on the side of standard shows for a while
maybe it's the channels I'm watching.
