hp pavillion dv6000 ent notebook

My neighbor has the above notebook and is getting an error message of Err1Err3 during boot up. I've been through hp's website and the code is only listed for the desktop of the same line and says its a parameters issue with a sata drive however the bios fix for the desktop is not the same for the lap top wich there is no fix listed. The drive in the notebook is a 160gb sata 5400rpm and Im pretty sure its toast as it is very noticeable in its noise level when it starts up. The notebook was hooked up to a modem when lightning hit close to the house and has since then been non op however you can get into the bios easily. Anyone else have any experience with this error message on this notebook line so I can have more reliable info to back up what Im finding?

Thanks Charper1 that adds clarification to what I've found so far. Im adding the mobo to the list based on her telling me that she couldnt get it to power up at all and now it goes as far as bios and the first stage of boot up.

Hard drive, $164 after market or $549 HP exact replacement.
Battery, $169 HP replacement,
Motherboard from HP $472,
