how to setup a new dish DVR you bought?

I am thinking of buying my own VIP622 but how do I set it up?

Can I install it by myself? I already have 4 satellite cables coming down from the roof, only two of them are being used right now so I guess I have everything I needed. All I need to do is connect the cables to the receiver and activate it, right?

Do I need to call Dishnetwork and let them know that I have a new receiver?

BTW, where is DishStore located? Do they have free install service in my area? I am in New York.

Until you call DISH with the R00 and S00 numbers they can't send an authorization signal to turn on the programming. Dishstore uses DNSC for installation.

What type of dish do you have?

Do you have a HD dish or are you getting it for the OTA tuner?

I have the super DISH. I think it supports HD, but I don't have any HD programming package. The reason I want the vip622 is because of its recording capacity(200-hour versus 100-hour in DVR625). I only use it to record SD programs.

Additional fees for using an HD receiver and not having the HD package is not worth the cost. You would be better served to get another sd receiver or wait till you can add external hard drive to your existing receiver.
