First post here.

I found an excellent condition 6' mesh BUD with polar mount, actuator, LNB etc....

This is my first dish for FTA experimentation.

What is the best way to take this down and transport it home? It's only 2 miles away from my house.

Can I take it down without disassembling it? I can put the whole dish on a flatbed trailer for transport?

My thought was to cut the mounting pole and load it on the trailer, with help of course.

Any opinions/experiences would be appreciated.

There are plenty of threads on the forum, describing successful moves.
I used a flatbed (see links in my signature), but you might get by with a pickup.
One guy swears he rolled his home by hand, but that may be a fishing story. ;)

Show us some pictures.
Off hand, I'd consider lifting the dish and mount off the pole, and laying it face up for transport.
Unless you have another suitable pole, ya might want to dig out the existing one.

Ok. I have been searching everywhere online, including of course, this site.

Here's what I've been able to find out after going to talk to the owner in person and taking a look.

It is a 12', looked smaller from the highway, "Darkstar" dish, it is complete with motor, Drake controller etc.... It is in great shape, the only problem I see is that some of the paint on the pole/substructure has started to flake/peel.

Now, from what I've been able to find out about this 12' Darkstar dish it doesn't sound too good. The mesh is aluminum but the support "grids" are plastic or some sort of composite. All are in good shape, no cracking etc.....

I have to be honest and wonder whether this 12' dish is worth the $50 they guy asked for it. I found a thread here about a Darkstar dish for the same money and the consensus seemed to be that it wasn't a good deal except for the motor.

Don't have one, but from what I've read, I would give it a pass.
Only extenuating circumstances might be if ...
- it in on a horizon-to-horizon (H-H) mount
- has an ortho feed
Chances are about zero, of course.
Again, with pictures, we'd spot that for you. :)

Read through the thread for dishes found on Craigslist.
There will be comments for some of the *most* desirable dishes. :)

12' Janeil Darkstar,I had one,it's landfill somewhere now.I took down a 10' steel mesh to put that thing up.2 months later I ripped it down and put the steely back up.The steel is now gone to the recycler, rust had gotten the better of it,and put up a 10' Winegard perforated. Now that is a satellite dish !;)
