I am signing up for Dish and they are giving me a dvr dual tuner model 625 which will handle 2 tv's... I also have a pansat 3500 FTA receiver. I need help figuring how to connect these 2 receivers together so that I am able to record the pansat programs on the 625 receiver's hard drive.

thank you
Ken

Different Scenario

I have a dish 500 with a dual lnbs and a 625 dual receiver tuner. I pick up a 3x4 switch and run the dish lines into the switch and two outputs to the 625 and a third to the pansat FTA receiver. Is there anyway to record a show from the pansat onto the hd of the 625. I thought there was an IR blaster which would allow me to do this

Thank you kindly for your reply

The IR blaster would allow you to record 625 programing to dvd or vcr, not other way around.

IR Blaster

Why would I even need an ir blaster to record DVD/vhs from the 625?
I am not familiar with how the ir blaster works but why couldn't I (without the ir blaster) just run a line out from 625 into my panasonic dvd recorder.

What would the purpose of the ir blaster be

Thank you again,
Ken

Your original question wasn't phrased properly. At least they way I read it. It seemed like you were asking if it was possible to record from your Pansat onto the 625. Regardless of IR blaster; there is no way to transfer recordings TO a 625 harddrive.

An IR Blaster allows you to control other equipment (i.e. your amplifier, VCR, etc) via infrared commands sent out by your remote control

Dish receivers have to use Dish multi-sat switches. Assuming you have legacy Duals, get a pair of SW21 switches. The FTA receiver will be on a separate system.

Get a Tivo Series 2 and use it to control the Pansat and record into the Tivo fron the composite output of the Pansat. TiVo can do it Dish DVR's cannot.

I'm catching on

OK.
I think I have a solution..
I am going to switch to Dish. (i currently have dtv with wiring going to my upstairs and downstairs receivers).
When the installer comes I am going to ask him to connect the existing upstairs wires from the DTV dish to the Dish Dish. I am going to have him hook up the 625 downstairs and have the dual receiver hooked into my basement (3rd level) TV. Upstairs (the third level) I will have my Pansat (or now I am looking at the viewsat pvr7000) hooked up. I will install an ide hard drive in the VS.
By doing this I can record upstairs; have the 625 downstairs hooked into the 2nd TV in the basement.

Tell me if there is something I'm missing. I hope this will resolve things

I have not yey had my dish installed... Will do shortly. Only at that time will I be able to determine what kind of LNB I have. Correct?
