I know is unrealistic, but before Comcast bay area and cali was not part of our local regional sports and sports game were blacked out. Since a group of people wrote letters to comcast saying that they should be part hawaii regional sports, we now get the professional team. My question what would be the proper steps to get New York or Los Angeles local channels not sports to be part of your DMA.

As long as the networks are offered on a local affiliate, I don't see how that would be possible. For example, if NBC wasn't offered in Hawaii on any local affiliate, including a digital sub channel, I could see petitioning to import Los Angeles's NBC. But, unless I'm wrong, all networks are offered locally.

The difference between your situation and the situation with CSN Bay Area and professional teams, is that Hawaii doesn't have a professional franchise. By just my guess, I assume that no team in the continental 48 states claimed Hawaii as their market, so it was as simple as the Bay Area teams claiming the state as part of their territory. There's a somewhat similar situation in Nebraska where a radio station is part of the New England Patriots radio network.

thanks everyone for your feedback, I receive AAD...so what are satellite companies going to do when stela expires at the end of 2014. Are they going to be able to provide distant network again?

I too thought that. I thought that was why Hawaii and Alaska have different packages. The spotbeamed HD channnels on 119/110 was what I thought was being seen in those states. That's what it was when TVJapan was on the regular satellites. Conus for us, spotbeamed for Hawaii.

The local stations would lose ad eyes (money) and no politician is going to cross swords with someone that can slant news coverage in the next election.
Might happen the day they figure out how to stream local advertising into a distant network stream so the local guy gets paid for his franchise area.
