How to get Amazon prime on a Joey

I'm told it's not compatible with Joey's or something. They need to release the Joey 4 if they are even working on it.

I would suspect a Joey 4 is in the works. What it entails, I am curious about. Some features I would guess:

4K capability.
DD+
a single tuner to make it capable of still being used if the Hopper goes down(unused until then... kind of a backup)

The addition of a single tuner for backup is a great idea!

Is the problem with the Joey a hardware one or a software one in that it needs the Dolby Digital Plus codec or other premium software?

Why bother with a Dish app for Netflix or Amazon Prime. Rokus or similar devices are cheap and you're already paying for the subscriptions, and they don't have the wasted bandwidth of going through Dish hardware. I guess a cheap or old TV with only one HDMI port would be the only problem.

I thought it was not included in any receiver other than the Hopper 3 because they will not allow it without DD+.
You are exactly correct. Amazon provides the app, not DISH, and Amazon requires that the app they provide be on a receiver that is capable of DD+. Joeys, Hopper 2000, and HWS can't do that so Amazon won't provide the app for those receivers.

I think its kinda stupid to require the receiver to be capable of DD+ but its no problem if the AVR doesn't do DD+.

Amazon has no control over whether someone is using an AVR or soundbar or just the TV speakers. They do have control over what equipment their app will run on, and apparently require DD+ capability on the device that their app runs on.

Precisely. There must be another reason. I suspect performance issues. I had so much trouble with Netflix on my Joey 2 that I gave up and bought a Roku stick.

They could provide it without DD+ for the HWS.

SOme of you are like conspiracy theorists. The reason it;s only on the Hopper 3 is because, for the umpteenth time, Amazon insisted that any device that hosts the Amazon Prime app must have Dolby Digital Plus and that's it.There is no hidden agenda or insidious plot to keep it from other receivers

Transfer from Hopper w/sling to Hopper 3

At these prices, yes, the Google Voice Remote Should Be Free
