Each time the receivers updates, the don't go back on and I need to turn all of them back on. Is there a way to disable the updates?
Whenever they update, they"ll go into standby afterwards. Why not set the update time to a time the reciver wont be used and/or you wont be home

You can disable that feature on all receivers, but when you do then they won't update software unless you manually turn them off over night once a month or so. After a while they will not work properly, or at all.
If you have a commercial SMATV system, then you definitely need to disable that feature, but make sure you manually update software monthly as I said.

Once again, you can't unless you unplug them..and you don't want to do that. Don't know why it should be an issue to you. All you have to do is press Enter to take them out of standby.I have a VIP 722 and a VIP 222k. How do I disable the updates?
No, you can not. Only the number of hours before going into standby can be disabled. You can disable that feature on all receivers,
Or set manual timers

Sorry, but you are incorrect. It CAN be turned off on all receivers, including Hopper/Joeys. We always turn inactivity standby off in commercial installs, because it is common for them to sit untouched all day, and the customer doesn't want to deal with turning them back on all the time.
I guarantee that you can disable inactivity standby on all receivers. That being said, why is this such a big deal to the original poster? In a residential install it should be left on.
