On the front page, left, near the top, we could once see the # of people online at that time. Now it's gone. The new info/stats is nice, but where is the # online count?

To answer my own question, the # online is on the Forums page, bottom, under "What's Going On?" and after "Active Users Over the Past 60 Minutes:"
