How many LNBs

I have been away from the Directv scene for awhile and am trying to catch up. When I left, D* was using 3 LNBs. Im hearing things that make me wonder if that is still true. What is the truth? If it is true are there capability issues with old receivers? Thanks.

there are a few (not many at all) that have to point twoard 72.5 (I believe thats the right slot) for locals. Some receivers are indeed incompatible....

Here in about a year you might need a 5 lnb Dish but fortoday the phase 3 dish is fairly common.

My father in law has an old Toshiba receiver (don't know the model number) but will a Phase 3 Dish work with it?

hard to tell without a model number. If you go into the setup menu does it have an option for a phase III dish?

I'm 4 hours away from him. I did get him to find the model number:

Toshiba TSR-101.

Any idea if that receiver will work with that antenna?

According to D* website this is not a multi-satellite compatible receiver and will not work with a phase III dish.
