hi i was wondering how the Zenith DIRECTV® HD-SAT520 Receiver is. any and all opinions suggestions would be very welcome thank you all in advance. the reason im asking is that ve has purchased all the refurbushed models

I love mine. What do you want to know? If you can find the LG LSS-3200a it is the newer version of what was to be the Zenith SAT-530. (LG makes Zenith) and they are both awesome.

Go a little bit further Lucky Goldstar owns the Zenith brand name. They also produced the SONY HD300 and the Hughes HTL-HD receivers.

The Zenith HD-SAT520 is a great DIRECTV/ATSC HD set top box. We purchased all of LG/Zenith's factory remanufactured units. Great DIRECTV and OTA box at a terrific value.

I've had the Zenith for over 2 years now, and I gotta tell you, before the latest software update came down a couple of months ago, I was ready to throw it out the window.

The biggest problem I had was freezing up. If you didn't point the remote control DIRECTLY at the unit the picture would freeze (audio would continue) and there was no option but to reboot (unplug/replug the unit). Then it would take its good old time channel-scanning and you would have to rebuild your custom channel list. That got old REAL fast.

Now with the new software if it has to reboot it will do it automatically and preserve your custom channel list. The only other major beef I have is that those gawdawful shopping channels keep popping up on my custom list in spite of every attempt to block them, but I think that's a D* issue, not a HD-SAT520 issue.

Picture quality is much better than Sammy 360, the "Panorama" setting is the best.

I love these receivers and LG has remanufactured these to the latest standards.

We are shipping them with the original remote control units, manuals and component cables, composite and stereo audio cables.

Does this just mean they already have the last software update, or were there new parts installed? Can you provide details if it is the ladder. Thanks.

These HD-SAT520's were completely checked out and hardware was upgraded if the STB needed it, they all got firmware upgraded.

We are shipping them with the factory original remote control units, component video, composite video and audio cables and the owners manual.

What hardware would need to be upgraded is my question. I have one of these units and would like to know what it is, if I need it, and what is LG providing for current owners. Maybe who to contact too. Thanks.

What makes this SAT520 receiver better than others? The retail on this is about $500-$600. What drives the pricing on this versus the H10 which is priced at $299? Is the picture better, or is it the features of the receiver? I have an H10 and I'm pretty happy with it. I might buy another receiver and our friends at valueelectronics.com is offering a remanufactured SAT520 at $199, with no warranty. I'm tempted. Should I or shouldn't I, knowing that the receivers are changing at year-end...

Very reliable STB, great illuminated front panel, displays channel and resolution selected. Very sensitive and selective ATSC tuner. Also accepts QAM cable input.

Terrific value at $199.

The Sat520 is two generations old. It doesn't simultaneously pass downconverted video through the S-video or Composite. That is a major drawback for those who like to use with a Tivo/Replay/VCR. If that doesn't matter to you, then the Sat520 is probably a good choice for that price.

Well I ordered and received this Zenith SAT520 receiver that Robert at Value Electronics highly recommended, and it came without the remote control. I was leery about buying remanufactured goods for this reason. I've left messages and hope that it gets here soon.

If I ever get it set up, I'll let everyone know how it is.
