if your worried about distance then use a good quality cable like RJ11 or RG6 solid core (most rg6 is copper clad)

and use a bandstacked lnb so you dont have voltage issues.

residential/apartment?

Can you put the dish on a second floor balcony?

We have had some discussions of shooting through a south-facing window, and I'd refer you to those threads for more info.

If your 2nd floor location does not have a clear shot to the 97 bird, may I suggest running down to the ground to mount the dish, or some other non-roof location?

It wasn't clear if you were suggesting running a coax all the way down the building, but I would not even consider it.

10 - 12 foot per story x 14 stories = 140 / 168 feet. Distance should be OK with a good quad shield cable. Make sure to secure the coax frequently if dropping down an access shaft to prevent cable strain.

I wouldn't suggest trying to attach the coax to the exterior of the building. Even if you got permission, the multitude of cable clip attachments and properly installation would be an incredible task!

A couple of years ago I did a motorized installation in Brooklyn on the roof of an 8-story apartment building. The receiver is on the ground floor, and the setup works well (except for a problem with backlash on the SG-2100 motor)...
