How do receiver upgrades work?

I'm a relatively new customer and have 2 VIP 722K receivers. They're great but the 922 looks spectacular. So, how does Dish Network handle receiver upgrades? Is it like cell phone companies where you need to wait until your agreement is up or can you upgrade at any time?

Thanks!

in the contract i signed last November it had the 922 price, and it was $400 for the upgrade. No idea how much it will be when it finally gets released but could be a around that.

It's been my experience that within 6 months of your term ending, you get a much better deal.

YMMV, but it has always worked for me.

That works out for me then. 6 months before my contract ends is sometime in April. Just hoping it's less than $400 though. No way the wife would let me spend that much on a receiver.

As posted elsewhere, you might well get a $200 upgrade deal. Of course, for $540 or so you can buy one.

Also posted elsewhere, you are generally not allowed to Dish it up within 12 months of previously doing so. But there are many exceptions. When they took my 721 away, I was given an exception.
