How DISH quietly starter ripping off subscribers of International (Russian) package, or your thought

I'm so anti Dish it isn't funny. But I can't see any grounds for a customer being let out of a contract just because they basically regret it's terms ex post facto. All programming agreements are perfectly clear : All programming is subject to change without notice.
Thats fine with AT 250 etc but when you are talking about a a hand full of channels..I wonder how that would hold up in court..They have to provide some kind of service

especially if its a International channel and the customer has JUST that language package (and the basic which is now required)

They still have plenty of programming in that language. They have no standing whatsoever according to the terms of the agreement, unless they worked out a non standard arrangement guaranteeing one channel. They are under contract, but they can still complain all they want and try to sway others' opinion in hopes of getting out of their obligations. It may work: many in this thread disregarded the terms, so Dish may as well.

To me I don't know about legally, but that does make a difference. (And for the record said so as soon as that was pointed out -)

So lemme understand some of the thinking of the responses

Lets say I was a prospective customer 6 months ago who wanted only NTV. Dish site shows it as 19.99 and its just that channel. BUT I have to spend $19.99 for that one channel + $10 for some PI channels....

Now dish pulls the ONE channel I subscribe to yet I'm still on the hook for a contract? This isnt like Big10 or AMC being pulled. There are lots of people who go with a provider for ONE channel when working with International. Yeah I know there are people who say I'm leaving because AMC is pulled but there are other channels you can see. Its not like some people subscribe for ONLY AMC ;)

[strike]Dish does not offer just the NTV channel, nor do they offer any expectation that it will be continued in the future.[/strike] In fact, they state quite the contrary. It is up to the customer to determine suitability of what is offered. Caveat Emptor.

The deciding factor is that Dish offered a pkg that can change, not what hopes or expectations are held by the customer, or what he wanted or thought he was buying. It would be impossible to prevent changes. Think how fast providers would jack up prices if they had E* & D* over a barrel.

I didn't know it was just one channel. I thought it was a "package" implying more than one station. Didn't someone say it was replaced by a number of other channels?

There are 2 packages
One was 19.99 and just that channel
the other was 24.99 and had somew other Russian stations

I'm just going off the dish site. If you look there are different packages for each language. As example French
9.99 for TV5 Monde OR

19.99 for a package
Channel Name Channel No.
AFROTAINMENT MOVIES (AFROM)
9859
EUROCHANNEL (EURCH)
9860
EURONEWS (EURNS)
9793
FRANCE 24 (FRN24)
9862
LUXE TV (LUXE)
9796
RADIO FRANCE INTERNATIONAL (RFI)
9863
TIVI5MONDE (TIVI5)
9858
TRACE URBAN (TRACE)
9861
TV5 MONDE (TV5)
9857

But if you sub to just TV5 and Dish pulls it you should (IMO) get out of contract and return the equipment

Dish does not offer just the NTV channel, nor do they offer any expectation that it will be continued in the future.

you want to resharpen your knife a little better?
In fact Dish STILL shows NTV as stand alone

From my view, it has nothing to do with what or how many channels get dropped. No one has to have a term commitment with Dish. The customer accepts the contract term in lieu of purchasing the equipment and paying install fees. The term commitment is the customer's choice. It's a calculated risk and classic pay now or pay later scenario.

TVJapan is another one, is quite expensive, ($25) and I can see some getting dish for that channel, especiallly being in HD. The only other channel I believe you get is something like World Sports. I just find it wrong to make someone stay in that contract. If you tell me it's legal, I know I have used that before for disputes like locals or AMC. But I have also said there has to be a tipping point where Dish just is not living up to a reasonable agreement. Losing AMC was not it, losing the one International you signed up for should be.
Going by some responses, if dish dropped TNT, TBS, A&E, USA, History, and a few more all at once you have to live with it. I just don't think so.

OK, I stand corrected. I thought it was only part of the larger pkg. And, in retrospect, if I had read your post more carefully, I would have seen that.

Worse, ;) I now agree with you. A release from contract is the LEAST they should do.

Damn, I don't like it, but I'm beginning to get accustomed to the taste of crow. I'd better be more careful in the future. And I think I will, at least with Iceberg's posts, if not all. <sigh> Got what I deserved.

Yep. Slow, typing with one hand. Slower, when trying to use part of the second, OOC hand.

I would agree, except when signing for a single channel pkg, and being forced (reasonably) to subscribe to another pkg, just to get the monthly rate up high enough to be profitable.

I somewhat agree, and when you get the Top200 package and Dish drops AMC, you still got 199 other channels to watch.

The issue is when you get an international package, your getting a handfull of specific channels. Take away a single channel like NTV, then thats a significant enough reason not to want to honor your committment.

As someone who has worked with Dish and Directv since 1997, the one thing I have learned is that their contracts with customers mean absolutly nothing. All you need to do is write the BBB, State Attorney General, Department of Justice, or any other Bullsh!t goverment organization that deals with customer relations with companys and plead your case with them.

They will then inturn contact Dish or Directv on your behalf and about 3-4 weeks later you will get a phone call from the provider wanting to see what the issue is and will more than likely let you out of the contract.

Do I agree with getting out of a contract this way? NO

But I have seen it done enough times by other customers, where I am fairly certain you will be able to get out of your contract.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say that the agreements mean nothing. But like all agreements, if the parties to the agreement so desire, they may modify, eliminate, or add any part or the entirety of, a contract at any time. It sounds like that's what was happening in those situations: the customer spoke out in such a way to be heard by the other party.

Are there any Public Interest (PI) free channels with any dish Subscription in Sat 118.7?
You listed some, but which ones are on 118.7?

Then you'd probably have to get Welcome Pack or "regular" (English/Spanish) pack.

International "Basic" is 20 channels (listed as 20...I count 27)...mainly the PI channels but a few that are only on 118.7

It would definitely be a different level of frustration, and even more reason to be cautious of the commitment to begin with.

I would still try to get out of the ETF, and I'm usually pretty good at that type of thing. At the end of it all, I'm not going to feel "ripped off" if I end up paying the ETF or riding out a with a minimum package, but I actually read contracts and know what I'm agreeing to before signing.
