How did all you people in Florida do during Charlie? I hope no one here was hurt or lost homes. My parents were lucky, their property is in South Lee county and was missed by the worst part of the storm and it came through un scathed. I have 2 cousins in Orlando, one lives in Winter Park and had a large oak tree block her drive way and another one hit her house but with only minor damages, another cousin in Altamonte Springs, but she came out un scathed. I used to live in Union Park near Dean Road in Orlando, anyone familiar with that area and how they fared?

Just got power at 9:00pm tonight in my area of Cape Coral. We're 20 miles from Punta Gorda, which is a disaster. It was one hell of a storm. A few times I thought the roof was going to go.

Im not in Florida, but Charlie did me in yesterday. When the storm passed through Connecticut we lost power from 4am until 7pm.
This explains why SatelliteGuys Radio was offline as well as the reason I was also offling all day yesterday.

I've been without power several times this year due to storms, and I agree, it does stink!!
Though I don't live in Florida, I do live in South Georgia and Bonnie was aimed right at us, but turned so we didn't get much rain out of it... in fact, the only rain we got was before Bonnie hit land. A lot of people were disappointed with the lack of an impact by Bonnie... I wasn't.
We were also supposed to get a lot of rain off Charley, and even some strong wind. A lot of people were excited, and one local school system shut down due to flooding concerns. Charley didn't do squat to us, and once again, a lot of people were disappointed, but not me! There were some flood statements issued out (and a lot of people were excited), but none of it was serious, and a lot of people were disappointed.

I lived in Orlando for 14 years before moving to TN about 9 years ago and I have been out of power here in TN due to storms more times then when I lived in FL. During the time I lived in FL I went through 1 category 1 hurricane that came in around Melbourne, but it was nothing never even lost power and a number of near misses but nothing to compare with what you in FL have had with Charlie. Man I miss living in FL and missing all the fun you guys had with Charlie .
.Seriously though I do miss living in FL at times especially in the winter even though winters here are not that bad but not like FL. The only thing I am glad to be rid off is that Orlando traffic, pretty bad on the SW coast too.
I live in southern Indiana so we don't get hurricanes here thank goodness. We do however get severe weather and tornadoes here. Early last month we had one hell of a storm with 70 MPH winds come through. We were without power for a good 12 hours because of it. Being without power really makes you apprieciate all the things we have that require power. We had no A/C and with the temp above 80 outside it was hard to sleep comfortably.
I really do hope that everyone in FL, GA, SC, and NC are okay. At least this one wasn't as bad as Andrew.....

Dishes all lined up again!
The no power for 3 days was the worst thing for us. 95 degrees outside and almost that hot in the house was unbearable. The food in the refrigerator and freezer all had to be thrown out. Finding ice and gas on Saturday and Sunday was especially a challenge. Some of my coworkers are still without power, so needless to say, when the lights kicked on last night, we were all grateful.
At least we still have a roof on our heads. Another co worker who lives in Punta Gorda lost everything. The wind lifted his roof, then the rest of his house went as well.
If anyone wants to help with donations that will be directly used for Charley relief, here is the address of the local Red Cross chapter there.
