Out there somewhere
[FONT=&quot]Has anyone figured out a way to move the channels in the azbox without them defaulting back to the end of the list whenever the receiver decides it no longer likes them the way you want them?

You know there is always a "for instance"...
say you scanned in a satellite and moved on to another one. The next day you find that they have added a tp in a mux so you manually enter it and that channel now goes to the end of your list. Your list is now out of channel alignment if you have everything going by sats. Now you can use your remote and move that particular channel where you want it to be but it does not always stay there.
Sometimes after a reboot or an azbox wacky moment that channel is now again at the end of your list.
OK so now comes Maz3 time. However Maz 3 recognizes that channel on a satellite that is at the end of your sat list not the one is was keyed in on, and that satellite is grayed out so I can not change it.

in my case the last satellite on my list is Galaxy 12 and that is where Maz3 says this channel is but I entered it in on Galaxy 19.

Also Is there a button on the remote to take a screen shot photo ?
I thought I hit something at one time and it made a snapshot which saved to the receiver but ca not seem to remember how or what I did to make it happen.

(sorry if the type is small I don't know what I did that even I can hardly read this)

yes you can , and as a matter of fact you can only move 1 channel at a time not in groups. basically hit ok to bring the channel list. highlight or stay on top of the channel you want to move. then use the check/mute key to check mark the channel you want then press menu key to bring pop up menu and scroll to Move. press ok , then using the movement arrows move the channel to the location you want (you must be on the All sat channel list ) and then hit ok . thats done. it will always stay there from now on.

to take a screenshot grab your camera and ......lol . just kidding , while watching a channel then press the before mentioned check/mute key, it then will ask you if you want to save it on the AZbox P+.

I have never used a channel editor, maybe is faster but it could mess up everything if nor done properly.

I have done it this way but the channel never has stayed in that spot for more then 1 day. I was hoping some editor could /would move channels around easier or better then the receiver would.

Don't laugh but that is how I was doing it! grabbing the camera!

Thanks for the info. :up

I must have hit the check mark key by accident one day and that is how I knew it wold store a screen shot. Never could find that info from the pdf manual.

I have been experimenting with this CHANNEL MOVE feature recently as well. I haven't been able to maintain the "channel move" position yet either. The feature moves the channel to the location I want it to be in, but when I change sats, it reverts right back to its original location.

I have been recently clearing out my entire channel list and starting over from scratch so I won't be experimenting with this feature for a while to come.

HD FAN, if you can only make this functional in the ALL SATS menu, I don't think it is beneficial. My desire is to select one sat and peruse the channels on that sat (in the order that I want to see them) before moving the motor to another satellite.

If the channel MOVE feature only remains stable in the ALL SAT grouping, then that defeats my personal goal.

I guess that would work excellently if you had a multi-dish array connected with switches, but I hate to do this with a motorized system. Not only due to the wait between changing channels (for the dish to move) but also for the additional wear and tear on the motor in doing so.

I suppose if you put your fav chs from one sat up first, then one sat up 2nd and a third sat next so that you could simply move down the list to ONE transistion, that would be ok, but then why not leave the channels in their original order and use the other features available, like the favorites lists?

I use the fav lists a lot. They are more convenient to me and I bet they would be for others if they take some time to set them up.

well I use fav as well and I use the move function on the All sat list since I want them organized per sat position so the arm only moves a few clicks if i scroll through the All list. now even in the fav list I can move them around and they stay but I just try moving them while i selected hispasat for instance and just saw what you describe , it also affects the all sat list. but in any case it is useful for me in the all sat list , while i am on a sat i am just happy to have them organized by TP as I scanned them. Anything else I create a fav list them. Thanks for the heads up. BTW i found the save screenshot feature by pure chance since I pressed the key by mistake the other day.

Each time I hit the ok button I'm in the All Channel Menu screen, I can check the ones I want to move to FAV but how do I get to the FAV menu.
The "ALL" is highlighted in blue and I have yet to figure how to move this designator to the others on the top line there.

ahh I got it finally:
saw the answer here from B.J.
http://www.satelliteguys.us/azbox-d...guide-stores-channels-alphabetical-order.html
when in the channel scree hit the exit button once and it takes you to the top screen to move between, ALl, Satelite FAV ect...

Learn something new each day with this box.

Frustrating, isn't it? I've only had my AZBox Ultra for 2 days and the channel list and its quirks (like randomly re-sorting alphabetically) are annoying. Anyhow, the way I have found around the MOVE glitch is after the move to save the channels list to USB. Then when it reverts to its original position, I just have to restore the list. Unfortunately, it does require saving the list every time channels are added/moved (after making sure it hasn't screwed up the list already), but at least I'm not spending additional time re-ordering it back to the way I want.

The receiver has it's quirks but really we are just beginning to understand what it can really do.

Try this: (just figured it out today so I hope I get it right)
while viewing a channel hit the "OK" button to bring up the channel list.
If you have the "ALL" highlighted in blue at the top then hit your "exit" button once, and now you should be able to arrow over to "Satellite".
Arrow to the satellite you want then hit the "OK"button on your remote.
Now you have a listing of the channels on that satellite you are on.
Hitting the "Exit" button twice brings you back to the top menu to where you can highlight "ALL : SATELLITE: GENRE: PROVIDER: COUNTRY: FTA/CAS: FAV"
Now I am beginning to see why they do not have a move feature that works properly, they want you to use these features and it really does not matter where the channel ends up in the receiver under the all list. Simply switch to satellite and if you have 1 channel on your list that was at the very bottom from the others under "all" it does not matter, your only dealing with what is on a single satellite and the last one you entered is there for you with the others on that satellite.

OpenSat programmers have set up all sorts of neat menus for us to use, and most don't realize that they are even present. Or they just haven't experimented with them enough yet to realize their potential.

I am an advocate of using the individual sat group and the favorite groups within the STB. I did this extensively with my Coolsat 5K and I learned to appreciate it greatly.

I don't really care much for the country, provider, genre or FTA/CAS groups. They really serve no useful purpose to me. Although genre might hold some potential, but I think that the favorite grouping is the better.

In the end, I just don't move channels around at all. I experimented with it, but I had no purpose to use it - since I was using the other perks and groups and lists.

Well, without a real working manual, this is a learn as you go process.
My first objective with the receiver was to find a hard drive that would work properly in it.
The second one was to figure out a way to set it up for my use, by emptying the receiver of everything that was totally useless to me without causing it to go haywire.

Now it is the minor things that I am finding out about the receiver.

You are absolutely correct! It is not like the days of C-Band and BUDs where you "might" have got a tech to install it and explain it all and given a well written manual. What we are dealing with is a totally DIY project.

"Here's the equipment... go figure!" Oh, and "bugs"? What bugs?

It wouldn't be a hobby, really, if it weren't for these little, perpetual, seemingly unresolvable, frustrating, mind blowing, ellusive, intermittent, and repetitive minor errors! Heck, that's just a cherry... Well, maybe a cherry pit! Ha ha ha!

I am very pleased with the receiver and the channels/formats I now can get. I guess after using my Pansat 3500SD for the last four years I am use to a channel list editor that works and doesn't screw you around as much! I have also discovered another glitch, that being that if you re-name a channel, and later on re-scan in that satellite and save the new channels, your re-named channel reverts to its original scan name!

Even with the various categories where channels can reside (some not that different from what I have on my Pansat) it shouldn't be as flaky as it is. Hopefully, it will be fixed in the not too distant future!

While that can be a hassle I don't think of it as a glitch.
With satellite, things change so often so a new scan may bring in totally different things and if it was saved as "xyz" channel then in 2 weeks it changed to "mkf "channel the new scan would reflect that.
However at the moment I know it can be a bit frustrating that it changes the name you put in the receiver.

If the channel name changed, then that would be OK, however, when it is exactly the same as it was just minutes before, then it is a glitch (as it totally voids the re-name function).

Agree they should be able 2 fix that with software.

Well on the moving of channels i gave up on doing that. all it will do is totally screw up your channel list complety.

Az box likes the channels in the order they scan in. i learned that the hard way. My 2 bits
