How can DirecTV get away with this???

I have already spent the entire afternoon on the phone with DirecTV being passed around from one person to another, having to deal with, "Oh, sorry, our department doesn't handle that sort of thing; let me transfer you." I have spent WAY too much time waiting on hold and I talked to 2 different supervisors, both of whom were total a-holes and completely unwilling to help. They both basically told me that all they could do was escalate the issue and it could be as many as 30 days before we receive our refund and that it may not even be the entire amount and that it would likely be on a Visa gift card that is mailed to us. NOT acceptable. That is why I have not gotten the AB and BBB involved as well as sent an email to the CEO of DirecTV. We will NEVER deal with these people again after this! We are staying right with Dish Network!

Have you disputed these charges with your credit card company yet? If not, get that done. You CC company can tell DirecTV to go pound sand on your behalf, while the AG/BBB get around to whatever they are going to do.

Yes, we have reported it to our card company; however, they have to complete an investigation and it could be 7-10 business days before they are able to do anything and they suggested that we try to work it out with DirecTV. Also, in addition to emailing the CEO of DirecTV, I also sent the same email to the President of AT&T, John Stankey.

UNLESS, it's already gone thru.

Good luck with that, it may be DAYS before he gets to that email.
He probably rarely looks at his emails.

Actually, he already received my email and had someone contact me from the executive office. I was outside at the time of the call and missed it, but they left a message and I am going to call back. :)

Exactly. That is what happened in this case, so it's not as simple has just disputing it and immediately getting the money refunded. I called our credit card company (Bank of America) and I did report the charge as unauthorized and told them the whole story, so they are investigating it.

Michael White has been long gone and position liquidated since the merger with AT&T back in '15.

DIRECTV's current head today is John Stankey, CEO of AT&T's Entertainment Group.

Most credit card companies will put a hold on the charge while they investigate. They have a copy of the charge. Submit any email and hopefully you were able to save the chat you had online with Directv.
No doubt the cc company will rule in your favor. Outcome could take up to 30 days.

This whole ordeal makes me want to never consider them if I were to ever drop dish.

I definitely wouldn't!!! We have been overall very happy with Dish. The only reason we were going to switch to DirecTV was for a better price; however, after this whole ordeal, it's not even worth it! Also, I was comparing the equipment that we currently have with Dish (Hopper 3) and DirecTV's Genie and the Hopper 3 is far superior. The DVR storage capacity on the Hopper 3 is 2 TB and the Genie is only 1 TB, which makes a huge difference if you record a decent amount like we do. Also, The Hopper has Neflix in 4K built into it, which we use all the time (we have two 4K TVs) and I don't see that the Genie has that. I think we will be sticking with Dish!

I just spoke to DirecTV and they said they have refunded the $149 back to our credit card and that it should show up back in our account in 3-5 days, so we will be watching for it. We will NEVER even think of signing up for DirecTV/AT&T again!

Heck of a day you've gone through fighting that mess, but at least you end the day on with a bit of a victory there! :happydance

I think such behavior should be made costly for ANY company behaving as such. Satco, cablco, any "co."

Only money talks.

AND- be very sure they don't damage your credit rating over this.

Chances are someone in his office looked at it ...
Glad you made contact, hopefully you'll get things resolved quickly, even though your not staying.

Which office was "he" who responded?

John Stankey?

I was thinking that too, I remembered the name, but couldn't place what he's doing now, probably retired.

I think John Stanley is the guy you want now, but I don't know how accessible he is.
It sounds like Someone saw his email and is looking into it.
