I've finally got around to looking at the garage apartment I bought several weeks ago. It already has a dish mounted on the roof and I plan on simply taking the box I have now with me whenever I'm in the area. (It's just about fifteen miles north in the mountains). There are several different cables coming into the house but I went ahead and connected the two that are coming from the roof (the two connected to the DISH) and unhooked the cable (the only thing that it is working that isn't supposed to be working -- it's supposed to already be disconnected).

Long story short: Whenever I plug either of the two wires in (there is only room for one), I go in the house and the DISH is up and running but it's switching around to transponders and it's on the "progress" screen but makes no movement (ex: 1 out of 5, 2 out of 5, etc).

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps I need to call DISH and put that dish (the satellite number) onto my account. Is that correct?

Also, if I have "moved" will I need to "move" back when doing this? I know this is a bit "scrambled" and, if needed, I can take and attach pictures.

Your receiver might not be the one that the dish was set up for. The two cables should both go into the box. If your's only has one input then check near the sat and see if you can find a splitter. If you do, it might work if you remover it and run a single cable from the sat to the box.

The dish's are not 'numbered', so you shouldn't have to call. If your reciever works at the original location, then it should work in the other, if the dish has not moved off location. You could have a bad connection at the ground block or LNB, a moved dish, or bad LNB.

Just a couple of things to check.

If the lnb on the dish is a dish pro and you're using a legacy receiver you need a different lnb or a dish pro to legacy converter(a step down transformer for a legacy receiver to work on a dish pro). Do a continuity check on all you're wiring to be sure you don't have a shorted coax wire.check the signal strenght on the dis install screen to be sure you're lovked in on the Sats you need i.e. 110 and 119.

You probablyy have different setups between the two Dishes. We need to know what kind of receiver you have. Doing a check switch may fix your problem, depending on what kind of receiver and dish combination were are working with. If you have a Legacy receiver you will need to have Legacy LNB's on the dish. If you have a DishPro or DishPro+ receiver it can work with either type of LNB.

Let us know what receiver you have then we can help more.
