Hopper showing signs of dying?

Our Hopper is quite a few years old and lately, has been freezing. Typically, we can leave it alone and in a minute or two, the show will resume. One time, I had to hit the reset button. I'm thinking hard drive issues. What do y'all think?

HDD-related issues should give pop-up messages with a 3-digit or 4-digit code in the corner. Unplug it for 10 minutes.... Can't hurt

Thanks Hall. Haven't seen any codes. I'll try unplugging. It only does it once every few days. Almost like someone hit the pause button.

I do have a Joey, but I haven't hooked it up yet. We moved out of our sticks and bricks house and into our RV about 3 months ago. I need to run a cable to the bedroom to run the Joey and it hasn't been high on my priority list since we don't usually watch TV in bed.

Is it possible it is an electrical issue, maybe grounding? I have seen similar things on the old VIPs when grounding was bad/non existent.

I wouldn't think so. I have the TV, Hopper, Blue Ray and Denon video amp all plugged into the same surge protector and everything else is working properly. It did it again this morning. It was just like someone hit the pause button, waited about 5 or more seconds and hit it again. Sometimes when it happens, we'll see pixilation (spelling?). This time, the picture was perfectly clear and motionless.

Is it freezing or pixelating ? If you mean playback is pausing, I'm still thinking HDD issues. If it harkens during live TV, check cabling.

It freezes during live TV, but not during playback of recorded shows. On recorded shows, we have not had any issues. Most of the time, the freezing is just a perfect clear paused shot.

Try a different HDMI cable and/or a different input on your TV. Next is cabling from the dish to the receiver.

You've NEVER seen it during recordings ?

Nope. Never seen it during playback of recordings. I swapped the HDMI cable with the one off my Blue Tooth player. Now we wait and see. It could be days before it does it again. Thanks again!
